The 2016 Takeover Thread

Has anyone got any idea about how long this fit & proper investigation is likely to take? Looking at some previous and current owners of clubs outside of the PL it would seem it was not too tough a test to pass up until now.

I guess the apparent inconsistencies that have been highlighted over the last couple of days might make the test more detailed than would have otherwise been the case. Nevertheless the sooner these necessary investigations are completed the sooner we can get a new manager in and the sooner we can start to make the changes we need to make for next season.

What did he do bad at Everton?

Certainly on the pitch there was no issue, they reguarly finished top 6 when he was there and Moyes didn't seem to have an issue working under him.

The proposed move to Kirkby was controversial but I wouldn't hold that against him as Goodison is holding them back. The Everton fans weren't happy at the sale of assets, outsourcing of revenue streams and number of loans taken out against future income. Of course Everton were in a bad way financially before he came in there but he put short term cash flow ahead of long term benefits.

He has had his fingers in plenty of pies down through the years without doing anything horrendous so hopefully things work out ok. Better to have someone slightly dodgy and capable than the likes of Faulkner.

Enough of this stuff, please.

Sure. Just got annoyed by someone who always likes to link everything to 'communist' - everytime I see him quoting me, that word keep coming. Hate that word.

Sorry.

Yeah, yeah, i know cold-war thinking man, you like to disagree on everything that is linked to China.

Just out of curiosity, did Communism China hurt you sometime in your life before? Knowing that will help me understand why you always have a problem with China, seriously.

Ridiculous.

@John I think because it has to be carried out by the Football League it won't happen until we are technically a Championship club. This won't occur until the Championship season has ended which is on May 28th when the play-off final has taken place. So I'm assuming they will start on Monday 30th May and assuming all is well it will happen pretty quickly after that.

He isn't using it as a word on its own but as something to identify the party that is the governing party of China (hence 'a Communist Party').

So to speak of the CCP is not to speak of communism or to speak of China but to speak of the Chinese Communist Party.

I thought it was going to be a joint thing between the PL and the FL which would allow them to be working on it now?

I had heard that but also heard nothing of it since. Our takeover happened so quickly after relegation that we are very much in pretty uncharted territory. Maybe there is work happening behind the scenes, but we have heard nothing in the media about it since hearing it was meant to be a join thing. I personally think the FA have just left it up to the powers that be in the Championship.

Not really

There are plenty of villa fans about who have shown themselves to be incredibly anti China in the last week

I'm referring to the response to Mike, which didn't seem to take into account a key point in his post--what he called his own "cultural ignorance". There was nothing anti-Chinese in Mike's post.

I do hope there is work happening behind the scenes but I guess we will hear nothing in the media until a decision is reached and either the PL, FL or both tell us what it is.

The key point in his post, as the way how i read it, is : 'Or is it a Communist Party thing to try and break that?'

How is what I said (about 'Xia will not like to involve the gambling business in the club') relevant to the Communist Party?

You didn't say (just) that. You said:

OK. Don't think Xia will fancy a casino-related sponsorship. It is a big no no for a Chinese-owned business.

Given that you, yourself, in this thread and others have spoken of the relevance of The Party to business in China, it's not the most remarkable of questions to ask if the 'no no' is the result of a state diktat or not.

I think there is a still a stigma surrounding the word "communist". In fact I don't just think it, I know it. So our new friend is likely wired to expect that any use of the word is likely to be derogatory.

@Deisler123 - I think there is a bit of a language "barrier" to overcome here. I doubt Mike meant any harm. As he himself said, he is culturally inept at times! We even have saying, instead of "Googling" something we "Mooney" it!

You'll probably find quite a few communists on VT actually, if you stick around long enough!
