Neither.. Xia states we won't do things like Man City but it appears we could with relative ease if he chose to. We're just a club with a very very very rich owner that is going to try and do things sensibly.

To be honest I hadn't read those quotes, but equally there is very little info on this guy in general.

There has been tons of posts in China's biggest football forum about the take over of Villa. I am surprised that a lot of fans there are not convinced by the owner (due to his past track record in China, which is also new to me). I will try to translate some neutral comments so it might give you guys some ideas of what Chinese people think about him and his company.

These comments *might* be truer than what is reported on google.

That would be great, I think we are all keen to know a bit more about him

Our outgoing "custodian" was expected to be better than the man that he had replaced. He initially gave us hope, he had our trust and he spent millions of his own money. Sadly in time he lost both interest and our trust. He stopped investing in the playing side, the club went backwards before crashing out of the PL at the end of yet another season spent at the wrong end of the table. So he failed in the long run but might just have done something with his final act as "custodian" that will see our great club rise again by selling to the right man.

We wanted change and now we have it. We now have a new custodian and what we have heard from him to date is very encouraging. We have some hope back and we can now look forward to the new season with a little confidence rather than with dread.

In Dr Xia I trust. Buckle up and enjoy the ride to infinity and beyond with our new custodian!

This blog post sums up my concerns

So what of Xia’s footballing credentials? Will he, as every Aston Villa fan wants to know, hold the club dear to his heart?

That wonderful press release provides an emphatic response: after playing as striker to college level, “football has remained his passion”. Moreover, we’re told, he “became a fan of Aston Villa many years ago”, something that at least one report has already decided means he is a “lifelong supporter”.

The suggestion that he bleeds claret and blue – already stretching credulity on first look – now seems to be further unraveling. He told the Guardian that he has been “a fan of the English football league for many years”, while revealing to Reuters that Villa was one ofeight Premier League clubs he had considered buying, while also looking at various targets in Italy, Spain, India and China.

How fortunate, then, that he ended up with his one true love.

So…Saint or Sinner?

There is no suggestion that Xia has actually done anything untoward, but there are far more questions than answers at this point. His academic credentials have been challenged, his footballing passion seems weak at best and his career path from urban planning to shampoo and MSG and now to club ownership raises the possibility – and he would be far from the first football owner to do this – that he is far more interested in using the capital markets to extract as much value from companies as he can. At a price of something under £100 million just two years on from former chairman Randy Lerner’s £200 million valuation, Aston Villa represents a perfect target if that is indeed his true intention.

If his intention is to sell us on for a profit in 2-3 years we have to become something of worth by then which means moderate success. So whether he wants to be owner for decades or just a short term one to make a quick buck I don't care. Both will likely result in better fortunes than we are in currently.

No, I haven't. I am however, deeply suspicious and concerned about it. I'm certainly not jumping on the giggly schoolgirl euphoria bandwagon that most on here seem to be.

We are moving into the unknown and would rather be positive about it.  After the experience with Lerner I think most will be wary by in the first week it would be nice not to be too down on the new owners.

As for Shirt Sponsors Villa have had a shirt sponsor since 1982, Starting with Davenports.  So there wasnt much of the 80s that wasnt commercialised.  Crown Paints for Liverpool, Sharp for Man Utd.

Any Mr. Mooney I thought you would be happy with a red in the Villa bed!

I guess he enjoyed football from afar and whilst at Oxford took the opportunity to see a game or two at least one of which was at Villa Park. He then chose a team to follow and that team was us (a little like our previous "custodian" said he had). Who could blame him for not falling for our club on first visit?

I expect that he recently looked around at what was available football club wise and the price was right for us. I hope his fervour for our great club will grow with each day that he owns it.

Crash helmet on.

I'd have Sherwood back.

Safe to say if Dr. X's first act is to re-appoint the worst (permanent) manager we've had for the last 25 or so years, I'll be joining Mooney's incredibly suspicious line of thinking!

There is a lot of "Oh My Fuckings Gods" in that translation!

Potty mouths.

ye sorry. some of the original comments used strong words, mainly to express their surprise, nothing to do with the club or this take over. I just followed and use that word (only two though) to save my translation time. I will edit it out :)
