Afobe is a must IMO. If we go down he is a proven goal scorer. He looks to have the build/speed to cope with the premier league. Will definitely have re sale value. Worth a go i reckon. Throw the cashola at him.. big bonus if he scores the goals to keep us up.

We won't be able to compete with any premier league team because of the new TV money. We'll have to get lucky to be able to come back up from the championship (or get a new {rich] owner) and stay up. Next season the team who finishes last in the premier league gets £99m (minimum) in TV money.

Unless im wrong the premier prize money and the parachute payment from this season is more than the 99m?The tv money will filter down the leagues , an average championship player will be 10m if sold to a premier league team.

No we didn't. I think total revenue was about £120-£130m from memory.

It wouldn't double. It's 99m from sky total. Not extra.
I can only find figures from 2013-14 but that season we got about 67 million from TV money. So we're probably looking at an extra 30-40 million we're missing out on.

Which is a lot, obviously! But we wouldn't quite have doubled our revenue.

You missing the fact that we won't be getting 67m in TV money when we are in the championship. We'll get a parachute payment for a few years but that will only be around £20m or something like that and it goes down for every year you don't get promoted. Essentially we'll be in or around £70m worse off in the championship next season that the team who finishes last in the premier league. Thanks Randy.

Next season our parachute payment will be £46,750,000

If we don't get promotion, the season after it will be £38,250,000

If we spend a 3rd season in the championship it will be £17,000,000 then that's your lot after 3 seasons.

In year 4 we would just receive £5,100,000 solidarity payment

We do not receive a solidarity payment whilst receiving parachute payments for 3 years

I'm not missing that.

The post I was replying to claimed if we stayed up we would double our revenue.

We wouldn't.

So in reality it is only an issue if you dont come back quickly

Couldn't careless about the money, if the club is run by competent people who know what they're doing then we will be fine in the Championship and should give ourselves a great chance to get promoted but unfortunately we are owned by an owner who doesn't care and are being run by a marketing expert so basically we're screwed regardless of the money.!

Yeah, you really don't want more than two seasons down

Presumably with the departure of Joe Cole we have freed up one place in the 25 man squad list. Anybody know the rules about permitted changes to this list? Could the likes of Gabby be dropped from the squad list if we aren't able to sell him or are we stuck with the original choices.

Seems that if we can't make changes then we have no choice but to sell in order to buy.

Sadly though it is about money, if we are in the championship for more than 2 or 3 years the whole dynamic of the club changes. Especially in year 4 of being down

Changes how ?

We go from a club that's barely spent anything net for 5 years to a club that ???

For a start £41,700,000 less revenue coming in compared to year 1.  That totally changes what you can and can't spend, that's a massive change for AVFC as we generate **** all income from anywhere else

Spends even less?

Spends nothing but loses significant amounts of turnover?

Spends nothing but accumulates debt because it can't cover it's costs?

Money doesn't stop at zero.

In 4 years time if we are still down a club in the premier league would get £100m even for being shit and bottom of it, we would get about £7.5m for competing in the championship. The gulf is staggering, it's almost beyond belief. AVFC would be in real trouble with 4 years in the championship, real trouble.
