When the managers approach to games it to play safe why are fans going to be prepared to get behind and fight?

If the club showed that they actually wanted to fight to survive in this league I'm sure the fans would respond.

The atmosphere change at villa park when Lambert left showed this. We need something to get behind and hoping for a draw against norwich and ending up losing isn't it.

Maybe he hasn't experienced Villa Park (good or bad times) so wouldn't know what the atmosphere can be like

Plenty of midweek games home and away even if it's not on TV, you have to cram in 46 games somehow.

Yeah I know, but there in lies my problem.  I work away all week, so I won't be home for home games.

They seem to be minimized to Mondays in the prem, which is doable

Those who think I'm off base

To be clear, I understand you, if a player gives up at halftime he's shite but if you give up at half-time, you're just being reasonable?

Also to be clear, the attitude and actions of a fan base can't do anything to impact a club or the on field results?

THIS.  My only disagreement is that I think we should start with one match at a time rather than one league position at a time.  But resigning to going down now is EXACTLY what has our team losing far too many matches.  Look back here, it's been noted multiple times.  We give up an early goal because a moment of defensive stupidity and the heads go down; the effort drops, the ambition to make that run dries up, we become content with possessing the ball outside their pressure where there is no real chance of us scoring.  I suppose the players are just giving up on this bad game because we've had so many in a row.  They'll try again next week.

Too many fans are doing the same f%*#ing crap.  Let's just give up on this bad season/team because we've had so many in a row.  We'll try again next year.  I don't wanna sound like some cheesy sports movie where one dramatic speech gets everyone fired up to go win, but FFS you lot, don't become the very same defeatist attitude we loathe in the players when they just give up!!!!!!

I can hear the whining response now.  "They're getting paid and we're not!"  Who the F#%* CARES whose getting paid.  Let's go out fighting... fighting... fighting.  I will not go softly into that good relegation!  What CRAP.  I will not go softly into losing any single point.

Other whiners will moan, "we'll go down anyway." SO WHAT?  At one point I said I wouldn't give up until it was mathematical.  I've changed that.  I won't give up!  Should we hit the point that it's mathematically impossible to stay up, I hope we win every single match after that.  I hope we AND this team finally show the fight that we have been missing for far too long.  If we don't see it this season, what makes us think it will magically appear next?  Now THAT's delusional.

IMO, any fan that posts things like "we're done for this season, and should just plan for next year," should, whenever a player's head drops say: "Good job, you're just like me."  (Cue "Cat's in the cradle" )  Too many fans have become the very lack of grit, fight, and ambition that they despise in the players.

As I read that I heard it in my head with an American accent.

Sounded like a President-style state-of-the-nation speech

Maybe you could run for President.

Once you're in you could ban Americans from "All Economic activities outside of the USA"

Now that would help the atmosphere at Villa Park Randy having to give up his ownership

Tom Ross wrote an interesting piece in this evenings B/ Mail.

headlined "Lerner is fiddling while villa burns".

He says many things like " I have been impressed within Garde, when I have spoken to him"

but he goes on to say....Quote." I am not sure the current squad would get out of the championship....This is mainly because they are all about ability and not the qualities of Desire, effort, work rate and heart which is an absolute must for any team wanting to win promotion from the championship. To be honest if they added these to the ability they have , then they would not be in the position they are in"

I understand your point, but it's our job to support.....that's all, despite our frustration, there is little else we can do.

The action has to come from them......the turn, has to come from them.

this forum is a place to open your heart and divulge your inner feelings.....Villa park is a place to get behind the team.....at times that is very challenging ....in what I see.

He's right about the players but he's still a bluenose clearing in the woods Ron Toss

Rich,

don't get distracted by irrelevances.....of course he is.

but it has struck me these numpties running our club have no idea what is wrong.

we are now relying on foreigners/aliens (people outside the club) telling us where we have gone /going wrong"

The way it's got, we are clueless.

What a load of tosh.

"replace them with some scientifically evaluated players from wherever who match or better the stats of the departing player" - Where have you got this from?

Why did you throw Sylla in there? Why not Lescott or Richards? Why didn't you quote Ayew? (French League) Amavi (French League), Benteke (Belgian League)?

Sure, a player from outside the Premier League have never succeeded in the Premier League! The all-conquering and high tempo Premier League! The same Premier League that producing elite teams that are being dominated in all European competitions ATM.

I was merely referring to something i read that TS said about how these players were chosen, he said something about the policy being about stats and pass rates over proven Premier League experience or something like that & he wasn't happy about it. There was also another report i read which inferred something similar and it actually highlighted Gueye's stats compared to Delphs showing Gueye to be very slightly better than Delph in most area's, also i read another report mentioning how Almstadt & co often assess players in this more "Scientific" way. Is he not a Sports scientist after all??

As for why didn't i mention Benteke? I think you'll see that i did mention Benteke very clearly and the fact he was our leading contributor of goals for the last few seasons. He was the exception clearly.  As for Richards i could have picked Richards indeed yes but he was already a proven Premier League player and has done well so surely that proves the point i'm making doesn't it?  Lescott hasn't set the World alight admittedly but there you go.  As for mentioning Sylla well i chose to mention him as a way of highlighting that this flawed policy has been happening for a while. With Ayew he is starting to at last show some form and he may go on to be one of the successes as may a few of the others. Amavi looks to have great potential as does Veretout but the fact remains that the policy has ultimately failed badly and will surely result in relegation. I hope it doesn't of course.

In your last paragraph i don't quite know what you are getting at? Are you inferring that i think the Premier League is better than the other Leagues?? If so you are incorrect. I actually think the Premier League is a pretty poor standard right now but i do think the game is faster and players get hussled and harried more than they would in other European Leagues so a pass completion rate in say France would not be a valid statistic in the Premier League due to the player having less time to pick the pass.

I'm not but it's one thing we can all agree on!

Of course they don't know what's wrong and you know what's worse they continue to think they are right and their way is correct!

I completely agree that it's hard.   But I don't want to rage that the players don't show the bottle for a fight and act just as feckless as they, at their worst.

When they give up it pisses me off.  I just want to hold myself to that same standard.  Not giving up my dream and passion that Villa score and win every single match

I'm not stupid enough to think that my positive thinking has some mystical spiritual purpose. I just don't want to have the same lack of determination and grit that I loathe in players.

I can't think of too many teams who went down and a lack of effort wasnt an issue.

Give 100% over a season and you're probably at least half way there.

No coincidence that fat sam is telling players they're no longer required and our captain raises his concerns regards effort.
