PompeyVillan
That looks like a 5,3,2 to me. With Alan Hutton at CB. Either that or a 442 with Bacuna right mid and Gana left mid. Either way. It's left field.
CarewsEyebrowDesigner
433, with Bacuna and Sinclair either side of Gestede.

DCJonah
Bacuna over Gil. Not too happy with that. Pretty much no creativity in that team.
daggy_333
4-1-2-1-2 with Bacuna as the attacking midfielder?
Dr_Pangloss
Looks like 4-4-2 I don't know how it could be 442. Probably more like 4-5-1 with Bacuna right and Sinclair left. I guess the thinking behind playing Bacuna is that he is going to track back defensively whilst hopefully being able to cross in to Gestede. Still, I'd rather Gil there and he'd create a lot more and we don't really need to be so defensive against this Sunderland side.
Razor
Think this might be a struggle after seeing the team lineup. Looks like 4-3-3 to me
DCJonah
433, with Bacuna and Sinclair either side of Gestede. That's what it will be.
penguin
No Grealish or Traore, they're very lucky as those two would have ripped them apart.
PompeyVillan
I very much support the idea if Gestede up front with a partner. That's an attacking move. That's the reason I think it's a 5,3,2. Alan Hutton at right back in a 442 lacks the quality delivery of Bacuna, and that's important when playing this way. The creativity is going to come from Amavi and Bacuna today, I feel. KMitch
It's obviously 4-3-3 Guzan Hutton - Richards - Clark - Amavi Westwood - Sanchez - Gana Bacuna - Gestede - Sinclair I don't know how you'd get 4-4-2 with 3 central midfielders. Also 5-3-2 at home against Sunderland? Even with a few tactical blunders so far this season, Sherwood can't be that daft...

It's left field.Looks more like a 433 to me, Bacuna in a wide forward role. Looking at it, Sherwood might be setting us up to fire crosses in to Gestede and Sinclair, who are both decent in the air. With Bacuna being one of our best crossers of the ball, that would make sense. (Though I'd still like to see Mr Heel start).

DiegoD
Very frustrating to see Grealish out. He would have tore apart that Sunderland defence.
jacketspuds
Maybe this is why we are linked to the likes of Ljajic and Praet. Gil left on the bench in what is a really important game for us. Disappointed Veretout is not given a chance. Mantis
Don't forget Gil played 120 minutes on Tuesday night. So did some of the other players starting, but he's probably behind them in terms of fitness at the moment.
PompeyVillan
Good point chaps. We'll see I guess. Either way, it's Tim's most pragmatic selection so far. He's been forced into without Grealish or Traore. I like the way he tries to adapt his team. It's certainly more interesting than what we've been used to. Mr_Dogg
I reckon Gil is rusty, he'll come on no doubt. I'd have liked Veretout to play and get up to speed.
