bannedfromHandV Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 No number 9, strange? No obvious bomb squad members this year, even N'Zog has had a number promotion to 28 1 Brad Guzan 2 Nathan Baker 3 Joe Bennett 4 Ron Vlaar 5 Jores Okore 6 Ciaran Clark 7 Leandro Bacuna 8 Karim El Ahmadi 10 Andreas Weimann 11 Gabby Agbonlahor 12 Joe Cole 13 Jed Steer 14 Philippe Senderos 15 Ashley Westwood 16 Fabian Delph 17 Chris Herd 18 Kieran Richardson 19 Darren Bent 20 Christian Benteke 21 Alan Hutton 22 Gary Gardner 24 Aleksandar Tonev 27 Libor Kozak 28 Charles N’Zogbia 31 Shay Given 32 Janoi Donacien 34 Matt Lowton 35 Enda Stevens 36 Daniel Johnson 37 Callum Robinson 38 Graham Burke 40 Jack Grealish
Phumfeinz Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Baker is going to be playing every game for us again isn't he. Jesus **** wept. He's the worst defender I've ever seen for Aston Villa and I can't see him improving. 1
Czechlad Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Lowton given a number even though he was rumored to be leaving. Tonev I guess is back in the picture. No #9 is strange. Glad Kozak didn't take it cause I just got last years shirt signed!
Phumfeinz Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Clearly the lack of a #9 means that we are in the advanced stages of signing a top-quality striker.

DelboyVilla Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Clearly the lack of a #9 means that we are in the advanced stages of signing a top-quality striker. Nah we retired the number when Helenius left?

His squad number indicates to me that he is very much going to remain in Lambert's first team plans, when the fact is he's complete garbage and shouldn't be anywhere near a Premier League team. Then again Bennett has the #3 shirt so who knows.
romavillan Posted August 6, 2014 VT Supporter Posted August 6, 2014 No Carruthers? Doesn't look like it ay? Hope it's just a loan to MK Dons....
skarroki Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) Giving Burke a number seems strange to me as he seems to be rarely mentioned and doesn't look like he'll ever get a look in but is included in the squad numbers. Same goes for Donacien. I guess no number 9 cos it would be weird giving it back to Bent and noone else wanted it? Basically not as interesting as last year though when nearly the whole squad changed their numbers. Everyone's stuck to the same bar the bomb squad I'm guessing 9 - Helenius 25 - Carruthers 23 - Luna 26 - Sylla 39 - Siegrist Just leaves 29, 30, 33 for new signings or academy players to be promoted mid season Edited August 6, 2014 by skarroki
Villarocker Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 They've retired the number 9 shirt in honour of not wanting to disgrace the club any further. Expect numbers 1 to 11 to follow next year!
ArteSuave Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 The empty number 9 shirt is to symbolise how little goal threat we possess without Benteke and Kozak.
briny_ear Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Hope nos. 1-11 isn't Lambert's idea of our strongest team. (Especially as it's only 10 players. )
Robbie09 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Baker number 2 - how apt. It is odd we don't have a number 9 Saving it for the return of Ivanhoe
nick76 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 The list is fairly depressing. Even though it means nothing as well, looking at the first XI which should have key players looks below premiership standard.
P3te Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) 1 Brad Guzan (29 - Not Home Grown) 2 Nathan Baker (23 - Home Grown) 3 Joe Bennett (24 - Home Grown) 4 Ron Vlaar (29 - Not Home Grown) 5 Jores Okore (22 - Not Home Grown) 6 Ciaran Clark (24 - Home Grown) 7 Leandro Bacuna (22 - Not Home Grown) 8 Karim El Ahmadi (29 - Not Home Grown) 10 Andreas Weimann (23 - Home Grown) 11 Gabby Agbonlahor (27 - Home Grown) 12 Joe Cole (32 - Home Grown) 13 Jed Steer (21 - Home Grown) 14 Philippe Senderos (29 - Home Grown) 15 Ashley Westwood (24 - Home Grown) 16 Fabian Delph (24 - Home Grown) 17 Chris Herd (25 - Home Grown) 18 Kieran Richardson (29 - Home Grown) 19 Darren Bent (30 - Home Grown) 20 Christian Benteke (23 - Not Home Grown) 21 Alan Hutton (29 - Not Home Grown) 22 Gary Gardner (22 - Home Grown) 24 Aleksandar Tonev (24 - Not Home Grown) 27 Libor Kozak (25 - Not Home Grown) 28 Charles N’Zogbia (28 - Home Grown) 31 Shay Given (38 - Home Grown) 32 Janoi Donacien (20 - Home Grown) 34 Matt Lowton (25 - Home Grown) 35 Enda Stevens (24 - Not Home Grown) 36 Daniel Johnson (21 - Home Grown) 37 Callum Robinson (19 - Home Grown) 38 Graham Burke (20 - Home Grown) 40 Jack Grealish (18 - Home Grown) Based on the Premier League squad rules you can have maximum of 25 players born on or after 1 January 1993 - we have 28 So 3 of the players aged 21 or over who got squad numbers won't be in the squad Edited August 6, 2014 by P3te
StefanAVFC Posted August 6, 2014 VT Supporter Posted August 6, 2014 Under 21s don't count towards the 25 though.
P3te Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Under 21s don't count towards the 25 though. I know, but we've got 28 over 21s and only 25 allowed to be picked
