  1. Would you play Jedinak as CB going forward? For me he has to be on the pitch at all times, he win's almost everything in the air and some of the balls he plays forward are great. Granted his short passing is awful In order to play a 4-4-2 Jedinak needs to sit in as a CB as he no longer has the legs to play CM in a 2 At least whilst Baker is injured I would leave him next to Chester and experiment with a 4-4-2
  2. I get that they are trying to create an atmosphere prior to kick off but playing the music to get the crowd singing Conor Hourihane seems strange to me.
  3. What is MM... I already know this answer is going to be blatantly obvious but I can't work it out
  4. I hope they go down and their clubs rots. 1) Because its one less team to worry about in the top 6 next season 2) After the last few years of the footballing world laughing at our demise, I now have absolutely zero sympathy for other teams suffering. As for Ross McCormack, I can't see him coming back here. We will be luck to get 4-5 million for him.
  5. What row are you in? It's around 25/26 upwards that normally stand, anything lower you should be fine with.
  6. Not the keeper's fault there, the two defenders backing off the player were to blame. Why would you back off a player who is inside the box giving him both a crossing and shooting opportunity. Baffling...
  7. For everyone saying... we should be winning this, its just Huddersfield... they are 3rd in the league, currently they are a better footballing side than us. Can't understand this 'we're Aston Villa we should be beating everybody' attitude We are where we are because we have been poor for the last few years and the remaining squad is now a Championship side (whether its just an average Championship side or a great Championship side remains to be seen next season) As for the game, its going to be an interesting one as it now gives us a chance to show what we can really do against one of the top sides. A win here would give us massive confidence going into Saturday's game at home against Wednesday. Momentum is now the key to next season and this would be fantastic for it. 1-0 Kodjia nicking it late on will do me!
  8. Johnstone had probably his best game for us so far on Tuesday & Hutton has been one of the best players on the pitch for the past two games. You can't change a keeper and a defender after 2 clean sheets.
  9. Out of all of the stats we have achieved over the past few years this has to be the worst one! Seven years since stringing 3 wins together!
  10. Johnstone Hutton Chester Baker Taylor Jedinak Hourihane Lansbury Adomah Kodjia Amavi Same team for me, Hourihane replacing Gardner though (although he played most of the last one anyway) Amavi replacing Green as he's much more of a left winger (potentially) than Grealish who slows the play down and isn't direct enough
  11. Felt sorry for him last night in the first half as he was struggling to control the long goal kicks again and again due to being man-handled by the Bristol defence. It's also not really his game, he's not a target man and he's better receiving the ball to feet from the midfield. Did brilliantly to get over the penalty miss and was great in the second half. He's making conscious decisions to pass the ball now and it's bringing other players into the game as we saw for Hourihane's goal. Might be best to take him off penalty duty now though, I think Hogan, Hourihane, Lansbury and Jedinak have all been penalty takers at some point in time for their past teams. Or we could do the just let Alan Hutton take them until the end of the season to take the roof off Villa Park
  12. Can we finally close a relegation thread before the end of a season!
  13. Thing's haven't been great under Bruce for the last few weeks but Saturday, and especially in the second half last night we proved we can play some decent football under him. With the confidence of two clean sheets and a couple of goals I'm hoping the brief spells of decent football will get longer and longer as this season draws to a close and we can then build on it over the summer and going into next season. Everything Bruce has said in interviews suggests that the type of football we played in the first half, long balls, in the air, no passing or movement; is not what he's instructing the team to do. Last night proved that if we use the midfield we have bought properly then we are a threat when in possession.
  14. Don't want to sound harsh here but you can hardly criticize the fans who have made the effort to go to the game if you didn't go yourself... I was there and the booing came from a minority, the first half performance pretty much justified it though as it was poor. It was good to see them come out and change it up second half.
  15. Two things I want changed tonight... 1) When the opposition have a corner, leave a man up front! If you haven't noticed this yet just watch tonight, we basically invite their entire team into our box to have a go at goal. Then when we eventually clear the ball it goes straight back to them to hit us once again... 2) Everyone moving to one tiny area of the pitch when we have a goal kick. It's crazy, actual Sunday League stuff. Why not leave your wingers out wide for a quick break. Again we invite the opposition into the area that they now know the goal kick is heading to. There are obviously numerous other things I would change, but these two are so simple its completely beyond me why we are doing them game after game.
  16. Positionally Taylor and Hutton were awful in the last game, although Adomah was all over the place and offered Hutton absolutely no cover. However Amavi has been so poor lately that Taylor looks a slight step up defensively. It almost seems that Bruce is asking the team to play narrow and so the full backs are pulling in instead of getting tight to the wingers. Cross field balls are just going straight to the wingers and we are then giving ourselves more work to do defending crosses. As I have said before though I would keep the back 4 the same as we have a clean sheet to build on.
  17. But realistically we shouldn't be dropping any of the back 4 after our first clean sheet in over two months.
  18. Can't drop Hutton after Saturday's performance and our first clean sheet in god know's how long. Johnstone Hutton Chester Baker Taylor Jedinak Hourihane Lansbury Adomah Kodjia Green The only player worth dropping after Saturday would be Adomah, but we are pretty limited on RM's. For me Green needs to keep his place if fully fit, a run of games until the end of the season could see him becoming an important player for us next season.
  19. Stupid red card, and unfortunate that he will miss Tuesday's game as I thought he was decent enough on Saturday. Fortunately we have a fair amount of players who can fill in for him in the midfield. In saying that it was nice to see some passion from a player. It's something we have desperately missed over the last few years. Hutton showed the same kind of passion in a more constructive way during the game. But at the very least it shows that there is some fight in this side.
  20. Johnstone Bree Chester Baker Amavi Jedinak Hourihane Lansbury Adomah Kodjia Green This is the game our fortunes change! Bacuna for Bree if he's not fully fit. Let's get behind them for 90 minutes today instead of getting on their backs after our initial 10 minute good patch starts to fade. They need us at the moment and we all know from last season the effect the fans can have on the performance of the players.
  21. The negativity on this board is unbelievable. For years we complained about lack of communication from the board and we are now getting live fan phone ins. Wyness was always going to back the manager, he's hardly going to come out slating him in public. Stability is what the club needs and Bruce needs to stay. I agree with those saying the football we are playing is beyond poor though and if we hadn't had so many managers over the last few years I would be all for calling for Bruce's head. If the worst was to happen and we go down (I can't see it happening), the best thing that could happen is Bruce staying with the players he has brought in to bring us back up. A new manager would create discontent among the players and many would leave. Unfortunately this is just yet another storm we need to ride out and trust the manager, players and board that our fortunes will turn as they are promising. Hopefully beginning today.
