  1. Apply this logic to the Juventus team of the 90s, or the Real Madrid team of the mid 00s or early 10s. Both fantastic teams that didn't dominate their leagues and cups because the of the behemoth Milan and Barca clubs that existed, and both could be accused of financial and performance enhancing doping. They still won the occasional trophy though. Bit of repeated history there. It's the same with Man City now. The simple reason Liverpool haven't won more trophies is because of them. You can still acknowledge Liverpool as a bloody good, and successful, team that will be remembered for the football they played. The same as the Juventus team with Baggio and the Madrid galacticos, great teams that didn't win as much because there was a better team.
  2. There's an argument that they didn't make as many finals due to focusing on CL and competing for the title. For all the talent, for quite a few years their squad wasn't nearly as strong as it is now.
  3. Not just reconsider, but write the investment off and close the club. Make back what you can selling the land. Got to be worth £2.50 and a mars bar at least.
  4. There's no chance they'll appoint a PL level manager, which I'd include Cooper in. We were one of the biggest clubs in the championship when we were there, and we could only attract Di Matteo and Bruce before being successful with Deano. Blues now are not even half as big as we were at our most recent low ebb. They won't get a coach relatively successful at Prem or top of the Chamionship level, no matter how many trillions their owners have.
  5. I bet Eustace is laughing his head off. It also improves his stock without having to do anything. Forever circling the drain, an embarrassment to the city. Whoever comes in next surely won't do as badly.
  6. I can't stand Liverpool fans. They've booed every decision that went against them, howled every time one of their players was fairly challenged, and harangued a ref who I thought has been good. The entitlement has rubbed off on the players too. The fans are so one eyed and biased. Not to go all Keegan, but I'd love it if they lost now.
  7. Jimmy Carter Sam Neill Johnny Mathis Bobby Rush Linda Nolan
  8. We're seeing the control in midfield we get with Kamara in the team completely missing. Still feel like they're going to get a bad decision or ten go their way in the 2nd half to get them back in the game. We've looked good in spells, but missing Pau and Kamara
  9. Utd fans seem to think the players will start to perform now the takeover is complete and they're playing for their futures. Most are expecting a win as well. I think it'll be a draw, but unless there's some kind of ref/var shenanigans then I can't see us losing. We're simply playing so much better than they are. Our standard of play this year has been so much better than theirs. Only hope of winning they've got is if Rashford thinks he can get a better contract out of the new owner.
  10. No way! Sean Connery rules all. What a pairing. We have a rule in our house, the two newest Indy movies don't count. We never speak of them.
  11. That's got to be the most offensive line up under the Don. Looking forward to seeing JJ in this. Think he could be the difference tonight.
  12. Was this Rawlett by any chance? I know they had one a couple of weeks ago, my lad attends and told me. If it's not then that's two schools in Tamworth in recent weeks going into lockdown.
  13. They've struggled to consistently score goals, and yet they're appointing a manager who became ultra defensive at Wolves and always parked the bus at Spurs. I remember when Utd went to Spurs under him and the fans booed them off the pitch because they were so negative. They got smashed too. I don't disagree with the sacking, just a really bad replacement.
  14. As bad as Trippier has been, he'll be either England's starting right back or left back for the Euros. Southgate loves to pick players out of form.
  15. Well, that saved the avengers a job at least.
  16. Lee Carsley. FA know him, and the U21's know him. I don't agree with it, but he's in the FA's boys club now. Unless he takes the Stoke job, as rumoured.
  17. I hope the majority of the first IX do. We've got a tough but winnable run of fixtures over Christmas coming thick and fast. This is the last "easy" game on paper for a while, with no breaks until the new year. The two games against City and Arsenal will have been both mentally and physically tough, they need a rest and reset.
  18. I don't agree with the title statement. The two major signings were Lukaku (who I don't think Mourinho ever fancied), and Pogba. He downed tools as a professional, and showed why Fergie was happy to let him go. Still very much a transitional period after Moyes and Van Gaal. He was the wrong fit for Spurs, but to say he won nothing isn't fair when by rights he'd got them to a cup final and was denied the chance of winning it.
  19. I agree Mourinho has been left behind a little bit in terms of style of football, but these points I can't agree with. Utd - Europa League, League Cup, and 2nd place. Best season since Fergie left. Did go downhill afterwards though. Spurs - They sacked him before the cup final. Strange decision. He's very good in one off games.
  20. I think it could be argued that the relative intensity of the leagues has an impact of how the English teams perform in Europe though. With the exception of a few clubs, there are no easy games in the PL. Just ask Utd. Or Arsenal and City after playing us. In some of the leagues as well they rearrange fixtures to maximize how their teams perform in Europe, giving more rest time or rearranging more challenging fixtures as their calendars allow it. The PL doesn't do that, they just want games on TV as often as possible. That in-depth strength of the leagues just isn't comparable in Spain, Germany, or Italy. Look at the money spent and the quality of the players at teams like Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham, and Brentford. They've all got players from the top European teams or players that are fancied by the top teams all over the world. Not to demean those clubs, and I think it's great they can bring top quality in, but they don't have huge following, grounds, or history in comparison to the level of quality they have.
  21. Depends on the comedian. Frankie Boyle already did it years ago. (Mods - This is very NSFW, so apologies if I've caused offence. Only linked to show an example disproving OP).
  22. When Sunak entered the house, slightly late, he couldn't have looked any more smug (even more so than usual). Sadly, I suspect he knows he's going to get the vote.
  23. I know they don't like to work over Christmas, nobody does. However it's just another example of what's best for them. I don't feel I'm particularly politically aware, but I get frustrated that so many people do not make enough of things like this. However, the Tory media are largely to blame too. Enough has come out in the media and on social media now though to show Rishi is a dead man walking. The only reason he called the early salmon breakfast this morning is to prop up support for him, and nothing really to do with Rwanda.
