  1. Yes, a few lulls, but the high points were very high and, most importantly, their equaliser only made the Villa fans louder.
  2. A new category at the club awards night, please: "Cross of the Season". Henceforth to be known as the Elmo Trophy.
  3. Not many players come back from a 2-month hamstring lay-off looking faster, stronger and sharper than they did before the injury. Keinan somehow managed to. The bloke was shedding tears of frustration when he limped off against Wolves – appears to have thrown all of that frustration into his rehab. Bang up to speed from the moment he came on and played a big part in us getting over the line last night. Absolutely delighted for him.
  4. I wonder if any Wigan fans thought "What's the point? We'll only get thrashed by Man City at Wembley..."?
  5. I think Sturridge would provide much needed support for Wesley. Must get lonely doing rehab on your own.
  6. I agree with this. Southgate has taken a stance on Grealish and been willing to defend it with statements ranging from the illogical to the ludicrous. Despite baffled looks / laughter from traditional and social media he has stuck to his increasingly isolated position. I can't imagine he relishes the prospect of everyone else being right. What strikes me most of all is his total lack of enthusiasm when talking about a phenomenal young talent who has chosen – rightly or wrongly – to declare for England instead of the Republic of Ireland.
  7. Not that any further proof is needed of just what Villa means to this guy, but if you turn your sound down, set the playback speed to 0.25, and look at the bench from around 2:50... I could watch it again and again.
  8. Samatta will hear a packed Holte End roaring his name and know he is two games away from playing for Villa in Europe next season. I would be a little disappointed if he has "pre-Bournemouth run-out" pencilled into his diary.
  9. Different capacities make those official attendance figures misleading. A total sell-out (Tranmere) versus 1,500 empty seats (Bradford). Felt like different worlds. You really don't want the away fans singing "empty seats" at your home semi-final.
  10. I remember the swathes of empty seats in Trinity Upper for the miserable Bradford semi-final in 2013. Compare that to the bone-shaking Villa Park for the Tranmere second leg in '94 – still one of my greatest Villa experiences. Saunders, Teale, Atkinson... BOSNICH!! Let's make it a repeat of the latter. Those sort of memories sustain you for a long time. UTV.
  11. Gets slated for his distribution, but then has most of the crowd screaming "FORWARD!!" whenever he plays a simple sideways pass for Mings or Konsa to play it out from the back. Poor guy can't win. Epic last ditch slide tackle to stop a 3-on-2 Watford break in injury time, then the flick-on for the winner moments later. There's your "six-point" game right there. Great stuff, Kortney!
  12. Never stopped talking, cajoling, directing... To Trez, to Hause, to El Ghazi... Biggest voice on the pitch (alongside Reina)... Played two diagonal balls around the 15-minute mark that were inch perfect... First time I had watched him in the flesh – pleasantly surprised.
  13. Thought I detected a brief airing of "Sama, Sama-goal" in the Holte during the second half (I was in Trinity Upper). Definitely one in the Witton Arms after the match. He must have been drooling watching that atmosphere. This is your new home, my friend.
  14. Already got people in Trinity Road clapping when he cranks up his warm-up. That's what sheer work-rate gets you. Keep it up, Indy!
  15. Last season, in my opinion, we had 4 stand-out match-winners (Jack, Mings, Abraham, McGinn). This season, I think we've had a maximum of 3.5 in that bracket (Jack, Mings, Heaton and an off-colour McGinn). I'm not writing off any of our new outfield signings, but if just one had been able to take the season by the scruff of the neck and step into that top echelon of influential players, I think our campaign would be looking very different.
  16. The ticket office during office hours. They're normally pretty helpful. 0333 323 1874
  17. Indiana (Jones) Vassilev! Took me a while. Bit gutted we aren't really in for Eric Bumpa-Dumpa – he sounds like quite a unit.
  18. Jack must be glad Maupay didn't get himself sent off. Gareth Southgate has already explained that Man of the Match displays against Brighton mean nothing if they get a red card.
  19. Have noticed the drop off in his top speed too. He was turbo-charged in those early performances. The rigours of a first PL season? Still love his attitude and will-to-win.
  20. Pedant alert. He is 29 and turns 30 in six weeks (March 5th).
  21. No problem at all with people not wanting him back. It's all just opinions. But the overkill of mocking / disrespectful posts towards a very fine former Villa player – not so keen on that.
  22. Andy Gray was 6'1" in my Top Trumps, though it didn't specify how much was hair. Maybe he was 5'9" in his second spell at Villa.
