  1. Too early to call this a must win, but after the manner of yesterday's defeat I think it's certainly a must not lose. Everton looked quite resilient against Chelsea yesterday, albeit lacking a cutting edge without a proper striker. If they get one in this week, I'd fear for us.
  2. Joined officially (after loitering for a while) on 26 November 2018. First game after that was the mad 5-5 against Forest!
  3. Mings will leave a far more meaningful legacy at Villa Park than Gerrard. Absolutely mindless for him to be picking fights with senior players in the squad.
  4. We've got **** all. No identity, no plan. We can't retain possession, we don't counter attack at pace, we aren't defensively resilient, we are crap at set pieces, we don't press cohesively. So what ARE we, as a team? Just an expensively assembled collection of cloggers and hit-and-hopers coached by an SPL standard manager. If the solution to this is just to spend even more money, then what's the point? We might as well have re-appointed Bruce, because that's his answer to every problem too.
  5. Hope mine gets lost in the post before Everton next week
  6. Another thrilling 90 mins of Gerrardball is it? As bad as anything we saw last season. Had a pre season, got his players in, appointed his captain, and still no semblance of anything we're working towards. Said it before and say it again, he'd be nowhere near this job on the basis of his managerial record alone.
  7. Can't stand these words removed, hope we absolutely slap them. As others have said, they'll likely look to sit in and frustrate us so it could be an excellent opportunity for Buendia to unlock the door, if he's available.
  8. This sort of shit does my head in. A mate of mine is a Wolves fan and the stick he gives Mings is unreal. And this is coming from a fan of a team with Connor Coady as a premier league defensive mainstay. Mings is objectively not a bad defender. Whether he's good enough for NSWE's ambitions, I dunno - I still think he has another level to go up personally. But for people to say he's outright terrible/worst CB in the prem etc is just laughable.
  9. Feel for Mings, he's been great for us on the whole and seems like a really top bloke. To not even get VC must come as a bit of a blow.
  10. I'm not feeling massively excited for this season either, although I think part of that is just down to general football fatigue. All feels a bit pointless when City can just go and pluck another Haaland, Phillips etc every summer. I could do with another month or so before the season starts again But to stay on topic, I hope to see SG learn from what we saw last season. All I want is for us to actually look like a cohesive side - the quality of the players will do the rest if we can just get them to settle and gel into a proper unit.
  11. Hull City had first and second season syndrome in the same season. 2008/9 I think? They were flying around Christmas and then won about 1 more game between Jan and May.
  12. I like the idea of "The Project" being some kind of Simpsons Movementarian-esque thing. "All hail The Project".
  13. Wish him all the best, wherever he ends up. As others have said, he scored some vital goals and was a huge part of keeping us up. Sure, there were times he made football look incredibly difficult, but you could say that about most who've worn the shirt over the last 20 years. Definitely not in the list of "worst ever signings" for me.
  14. Normally used to most of our squad players leaving for free, endless loans or hanging around for years (NZogbia, Beye, Ireland etc) so to actually get a decent chunk of cash for one is refreshing. Thanks for the contributions Matt, but I think it's a mutually beneficial parting of ways.
  15. Signed Yarmolenko to play alongside him for my Dnipro team on FM2013 while I was at uni. Konoplyanka got all the assists and Yarmolenko got all the goals - ball to the back stick, Yarmolenko would tap it in. Gloriously simple football and an unbeaten season in the Ukrainian Premier League! Always had a soft spot for the pair of them since then.
  16. Think they'll be in the mire again next year. No chance Lampard is still their manager by May 2023.
  17. Getting better with every game. Looking forward to big things from him next year.
  18. If we can persist with this formation and add some quality through the spine, I think we could be in for a decent season next year. We need to hit the ground running as the strategy seems to have shifted to a more short-term vision but for the first real time I am starting to see a semblance of identity with "Gerrard's Villa"
  19. New right footed CB next to Mings and a proper CDM in there and I think we would look alright. I have absolutely no idea who the centre back is we'd go for though. See if the premier league millions can tempt Milan Skriniar from Inter, would be the (wholly unrealistic) dream!
  20. Thought we did alright. A commanding right footed CB next to Mings, and a proper CDM in that side and I think we look alright. On another day Ings probably has at least 1 goal, possibly 2.
