  1. It also has to be remembered that the 80s was a lot more defensive era of football and he must have had lumps kicked out of him in Serie A, and much heavier pitches.
  2. What a player. Sadly his passing is not a major surprise given his various personal health issues. I think what is more impressive is that he basically dragged Argentina to world cup victory as it was a fairly ordinary side without his prodigious talent. His time at Naples is legendary as he transformed a mid table side into one of the best sides in Europe within a few years. Check out the documentary on this and also Gary Linekar interview with him which showed how crazy his life was after retirement.
  3. Its the biggest conspiracy since Kennedy.
  4. I blame it on QAnon, followed by the boogie.
  5. Football marvelous isn't it? Jumpers for goalposts.
  6. Yes but the start of the season I would put 3 points next to Southampton and Leeds and nil points next to Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester.
  7. Nothing wrong with good technical defence with a little bit of sh*housery thrown in. Franco Baresi springs to mind. Personally I like all sports that has a good balance between defense and attack and perhaps some of the more recent rule changes in football has shifted the balance too much? Just my thoughts.
  8. That's setting us up for a fall then. Our current form suggests we do better away than home (not sure why given no crowd). West Ham will be a more open game whereas Newcastle could nick a set piece goal and put 10 men behind the ball. We find that hard to break down with or without Mr Barkley.
  9. No it won't. 4,000 for a premier league club is just window dressing, it is the first small stop to normality. The Premier League spunked over a billion pounds in the last transfer window and that is after 6 months of no one allowed in to watch. It will however stop clubs from league one down going out of business though. Taking an educated guess I suspect it will be probably just the lower holte and lower and mid trinity that will be opened for two different viewing experiences with a best case 2,000 in each stand, provided Birmingham is in tier 1.
  10. 2015/16 season. End of. We have had less talented squads but jeez that stunk the league out.
  11. The high line cost us in the game and we were always chasing. I think this season is going to be like this in winning a few and losing a few. We will be fine but top half is going to be a stretch. Didn't understand the penalty decision reversal, and a point would have been the fair result.
  12. I think Smith does not think he is quick or physical enough for the PL. On all other counts is a lot better technically than Hause. Definitely a Suso signing.
  13. We need to strengthen if we are seriously looking to get a top 10 placing. If they are going to do a U turn on the 5 sub rule it will be a massive advantage for the big clubs as their benches are far better than Villa's.
  14. I'd rather proper Villa legends like Mortimer get given more air time but hey ho its too long ago for the twitter generation.
  15. Something weird is going on here. Training, not training. He has hardly played for most of this year. Smith doesn't rate him and he will be gone by next season.
  16. Decent performance and result, just a further reminder how abysmal 2016 was. England are the flat track bullies of international football.
  17. I can't cope with the Rashica thread re-opening. That was done to death.
  18. Paul Scholes couldn't tackle properly for the best part of 20 years but that didn't stop him having a stellar career.
  19. Never going to happen. He has hardly managed for years and I fail to see how he has any relationship with Rooney off the pitch.
  20. In my lifetime of watching England very rarely do we ever actually look good and beat the elite teams of whatever that era is. And when we do it is extremely rare and memorable. Southgate just looks like a very long list of England managers who gets the job done versus the rubbish sides, and will lose to the first decent side in the summer tournaments. Same old, same old.
  21. With the amount of things going in the world at the moment I can't get too angry that England are losing to a superior side.
