  1. Who would have thought that by starting him Jack would be the best player on the pitch. A fairly one paced friendly though and Wales without Ramsey and Bale are pants.
  2. Loved Albert he made going back to Villa Park fun again. Championship is his level though. Shout out to Steven Davis who is about to be Norn Iron most capped player, overtaking the legend that is Pat Jennings. Davis has been a really underrated pro for a long time.
  3. You can't be be too down on someone with such magnificent hair.
  4. What I would deduce from that is that the vast majority of Unite members are not really interested in the political machinations of the union and are more interested in having a organisation to protect and improve their jobs. There is a argument of why trade unions still affiliate with one particular party and should just lobby at all of them but I am not a union member and basically I have nothing more to say on the matter.
  5. Well yes but at least a general election usually has about 65%ish turnout, not 12%. I am in favour of electoral reform, unfortunatel a watered down bland version was voted down in a referendum about 10 years ago, and I can't see the tories voting for Christmas on this again with a stonking majority.
  6. Well 55% of the members who could be bothered to vote, went for other candidates. It just suggests that most union members are not that politically interested.
  7. I am not a union member of any kind but I fail to see how Mcluskey views represent his union members. He narrowly won his last election from a 12% turnout so his total vote is probably about 5% of all unite members so I can't see how he can act billy big balls all the time.
  8. Didn't Albert Camus play as a goalie? The Plague is quite relevant for 2020.
  9. Unsurprisingly feeling quite optimistic at the moment, which makes a change. Earlier I hoped for a finish between 15th to about 12th as a sign of solid consolidation. Now I think we could flirt with the top half so maybe 11 to about 13th. I think we should aim for a 10 point improvement at least which would be 45 points. I am sure there will be a few bumps in the road but clearly we have a better squad than last season.
  10. I am coming to this view. If he really wanted to start his career in management I am sure he could have got a championship club this summer. Lampard and Gerrard only did a season or so of youth coaching before they moved to management. Having played at the top level for 20 odd years perhaps he doesn't really fancy the pressures of management and would rather have a nice worklife balance. Can't blame him.
  11. I still go back to that hot, frantic day at Wembley when we lost to Fulham. I was convinced that was it, and Jack would be off. Now two years and a bit later he is still here, is even better, and has signed a long term contract with us.
  12. 80/81 had a midfield of a player from the youth team, a scouser, and a scotsman bought from Hibs. Just saying.....
  13. Ok. I admit that I wouldn't have minded us going for Wellbeck last season for some PL experience but we have moved on since then and he had a rubbish season with yet another injury. Give this a wide birth.
  14. Had we signed him Doug would have said he was like a son to him. McGrath and Gazza in the same team could have been interesting.
  15. Gazza when he was at Lazio. Well he meet Doug on his boat.
  16. But I thought we were going to buy Rashica?! Other than the Watkins signings, most of the transfers were as usual done quickly, without fuss, and with most 'journalists' having no clue about them. Everyone thought Grealish would leave and he signs a new contract. Without that we would not have brought in Barkley's loan.
  17. Delving deep into the record books Villa did beat Liverpool 5-0 on the final day of the 1898/99 season. Villa needed a point to win the league, Liverpool came second.
  18. McGinn-Barkley-Grealish is looking very tasty already. Sorry Trez.
  19. All the best. Sometimes he looked excellent, sometimes not so excellent.
  20. I don't think giving both Nyland and Jota a painting of a spitfire is going to free up enough dough to get this one through.
  21. What no panic signings, Smith out. At least we now only have 2 goalkeepers surplus to requirements.
