In terms of our transfer business I think we have done quite well. I think all the signings are a upgrade to what we previously had.
However the squad is still unbalanced with 5 keepers and 3 right backs yet we have at best 2 defensive midfielders and at the moment 2 fit strikers on the books. Central defence is a bit light given Engels seems to be injured all the time, Hause is back up at best, and Mings does not have the greatest of injury records.
No I think he could still do a job for a mid table championship team. The problem even at the best of times they couldn't pay the wages he is on at Villa,, and especially more so with the Covid crisis affecting all teams outside the premier league bubble.
I would stick my neck out and say that all of these players if they do move to another club would have to take a drop in wages. Which players don't really like doing so the best bet would probably be a few loans with a few to buy when the contract runs out like Lansbury.
Who? Nyland, Kallinic, Guilbert, Jota, El Ghazi, or Lansbury?
That is probably over 20 million in transfer fees for that lot. I would be amazed if we got a quarter of that back.
Agreed. I think our first XI has the potential to do ok this season however the back up looks dodgy. It just takes time to build a premier league squad.
Concentrate on the league. It shows again that Villa often don't really know what to do with lots of possession. We had our good run last season. Ah well.
With the greatest of respect I don't really understand that position unless it is a player we have targeted which we can't get now but perhaps in January.
Make the squad as strong as possible now to make Villa as best as we can be. The better we do the more matches we will be televised and the higher the league position we will finish, which is millions of pounds of potential extra revenue. Which is even more imporant as we have no match day money coming in.
Why waste half a season in thinking the squad is not good enough? January is a dreadful time to do business as we have frequently shown for years. It is the home of the desperate and the needy.
Well yes but in between I wouldn't have minded getting to the Champions League and winning a few domestic cups, instead of seeing my club trend water and then decay.
I am just so thankful that NWSE have a plan and are just getting on with it.
I give you Kieran Richardson or Joe Cole. Was part of our no money transfer window back in 2014. We then won 3 of our first 4 and gave Lambert a new contract. Why, just why.
Chelsea only bought for 15 mil so if he likes it at Villa and does well, I wouldn't be surprised if we get him for a reasonable price of £30-40 million next year.
