  1. Big statement. Looks promising but a long way to go. Not sure he will hit Ashley young mk1 standards.
  2. I'm happy with his performances and contribution, I'd really really love it if he'd get off the mark in the prem as I'm sure would he. I'm not too worried as we seem to have this conversation about Ollie every year.
  3. A slow cautious start where we gave nothing away in the first half. I've watched loads of those now under emery and more often than not were winning at half time. Unlucky not to be today. The goal rocked us and palace did a great job of killing the clock, the Duran goal was top class and nice to see a ref stick to his guns after. All in all it feels a bit lucky, but on another day its 3-1 but our goals are scored in the first half. I thought torres looked good except for this goal, Emi looked good except for the slip.
  4. I thought similar and then watching again realised he's involved in the pen and the Bailey goal. A bit frustrating but looks to go forward which is always a plus.
  5. That is some finish, just watched again and he takes it so early Johnson couldnt set himself.
  6. the main reason to win it is to see villa win a trophy. I wouldn't be surprised if 50% of this message board has never seen villa win a trophy. What I also know is that success breeds success. We now largely sell out every week and we've not done anything to warrant that. I think being any sort of trophy winner will definitely increase our commercial opportunities
  7. I'm not sure this is a big deal, just an honest interview. He obviously did come to play and is waiting for his chance. I'd like to see him get a chance but think luiz is better, Kamara hadn't been at it but think he often struggles against the big sides.
  8. Could we protect Torres more by dropping such a high line? We know hes not pacey. Especially for the first 20-30 minutes or the tougher away games when we know teams will come at us. It will be interesting to see what happens in our next away, teams will have seen a little fragility i think if we go behind. The loss of Carlos probably didnt help us either.
  9. not dwelling on results. Im interested in the change of approach (thats what this threads about). Last year we would go away to the top 6-8 and we would look to absorb pressure and play on the break. Now were trying to press high up the pitch and dominate the ball. Im not sure were ready for that yet and maybe we should balance our approach with the things we did well last year.
  10. The bit that has surprised me is last year we took good away results by absorbing early pressure and not letting the other team score. Not always playing the same way. This works so well at places like anfield and st James' park where you can turn the crowd. Not sure why we've abandoned that.
  11. Someone told me they were a trial some years ago that followed an American school system. Supposably the individual costs were too high so they didn't go ahead in other areas of the country but they also had no way to unwind. No idea if its true
  12. my kids are a bit older now (13 and 8 ) but i found the foreign travel and holiday thing to be very much about how they were. My daughter was much more relaxed, particularly around a routine. WIth my son if you messed up his sleep or food routine (which was quite limited) then he was a nightmare. We spent a while thinking that foreign travel with kids was tough, actually it was just that kid. We also spent a few years just visiting the all inclusive options around spain. Buffet food that was quite decent that they could eat or not eat what they wanted, everyone else with kids so no judgement if they are sat on their tablets while you enjoy a few drinks.
  13. i grew up in worcestershire where middle schools were a thing. i was surprised to learn that the rest of the country dont really have them.
  14. A bit like every year, the kit is really growing on me. The more i see it, the more normal it looks.
  15. I think the top 3 is probably city, arsenal, liverpool. You then have a group of united, Chelsea, spurs, Newcastle, Brighton, spurs, West ham and us. That how competitive I think it is. I'm always surprised that west ham don't get more of a mention. Surely they have done what were aspiring to do. European qualification for 3 years, won a trophy, stable manager (though maybe not fashionable) and good transfer business. They are just missing a style of football.
  16. Their home form is unbelievable, is it one loss in 2 years. I unfortunately predict a narrow loss.
  17. A solid food window in terms of signings. I feel like we are stronger and certainly have improved the first 11. A bit surprised we didn't spend more, especially compared to some of our rivals. I suspect that the planned stadium spend may impact player budgets.
  18. Of course but reducing the reliance on agency type staff is key. They still need to pour all of the pints
  19. The answer is the efforts that have gone into the lower holte. Self serve, pre order, staff less service. Queues are eliminated. The main question really should be when will this the replicated in other areas
  20. I think the questions in the survey were clear and people responded to say that they would generally be interested in some form of premium seating. The bit I think everyone is a bit put out about is the pricing and the fact that premium seems to have come instead of upgrading other facilities. I dont quite get the working class bit either I'm afraid. Unless I'm mistaken the Holte is c90% season ticket holders paying nearly a grand for a season ticket. You could probably consider it already gentrified.
  21. I'm expecting something like this but I do wonder if dendonker is fit enough to start.
  22. My worry with liverpool speculating around the 40m mark is it's so far off the value.... I really hope we didn't stick in a release clause around this price when he signed the new contract. That contract came out of now where and it was pre Unai. Pure speculation be user in bored.
  23. We may as well close the forum if you are never allowed an opinion that differs from the professionals.
  24. I think this is certainly why we have seen such a shift in ticket pricing. The Brighton one I recall being surprised about before, could this in part be player sales?
  25. I thought he looked great against Burnley. Involved in everything and even his finished look crisp. It's just not going for him in the league. His finish from the Diaby cross was too well hit, if he scuffs that or over hits it he probably scores.
