  1. If you want to keep a player you simply pay him what a prospective club is willing to pay him. I doubt Norwich or Newcastle are ready to give him £40,000 a week. Maybe £25,000 - that's what he should be offerred. If he or his handlers feels "disrespected" by the offer, then he can leave.
  2. We only signed Zogs 2 years back. That is when our cost cutting started, so I doubt he is on ridiculous wages.
  3. It's been about 4 years that fans have been obsessed about getting rid of the non-performing high earners. Maybe we all just need to accept that there will always be 2-3 of those types of players on the books.
  4. It's a Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Good. Think Paul McGrath and Dwight Yorke are the only two in the Premier League era that truly Hall of Famers. They were a class apart. If you want to add Stan because of the off-the-field stuff, I'm OK with that. Guys like Gabby and Ian Taylor are Holte End heroes, but not sure if you can really consider them a cut above.
  5. No! Appreciate Stan's service to the club, but to retire a player's number he needs to have had an extraordinary impact on the club. Generally I hate the concept of retiring numbers. I much rather see players given the honor to wear the same number as past greats at a club.
  6. Which players are out of contract this summer?
  7. Until you see one of the top 6 teams play and realize how far behind them we are.
  8. Just buy those 3 players (Dragovic, Santon and De Bruyne) and we're set. We'd have good back-ups at all positions. If Bent is sold, might need an extra forward.
  9. He's still only 26. I'm hopeful that he'll be at his peak the next few years.
  10. i'd send him out on loan next season. Let him learn from his mistakes somewhere else.
  11. Pretty much why he is my favorite player after Guzan.
  12. Seeing the types of players PL has brought in, I'm sure he's got a well assembled list of prospects on his mind and the club is doing its due diligence. PL certainly does not seem to be the type that is reading the morning papers to see who might be available. He comes across more sophisticated than that.
  13. Lambert had no intention of trying to win the match. If that's the case I rather be in The Championship. What's the point?
  14. Thought Banan and Wieman were poor. Ireland made an impact, but not sure if he can do that for 90 minutes. Feel very comfortable with Guzan.
  15. I see more quantity than [top notch] quality coming out of our Academy at the moment. Certainly being labelled England's #1 academy will be a great selling point and should help us attract even better talent from across England with the new regulations.
  16. This should be a banner behind the goal at Villa Park. Got to give Lambert credit for giving Guzan a second shot. I've been a fan of Guzan's since his MLS days, but never expected this level of goalkeeping from him.
  17. He scores for Belgium, he scores in the Premier League, he scores in Cup matches. Am I missing something?
  18. The great majority of supporters were enthusiastic about the hire. Unless we are totally off the pace around January/February - think we have little alternative but to stick with him.
  19. Gabby and Barry scoring - just like old times!
  20. Nice one McLeish... The price of getting Given was to offer him a long term contract. He's looked shaky since Euro2012. Only way I see him leaving is if one of the top sides has GK injuries and is desperate for a quick fix.
  21. Unless there is a total player mutiny, I really hope PL gets a few years to implement his strategy - even if it means we get relegated. It actually (kind of) worked out for Newcastle.
  22. This thread reads exactly like the Fabian Delph thread when we signed him. I'll just wait and see.
  23. Where Randy messed-up is by trusting MON with wages and appointing debutant CEOs. We're now digging out of a massive hole that was created as a result. I felt Paul Barber (ex-tottenham) would have been a perfect hire after he left Vancouver Whitecaps. Looks like Brighton signed him and guess what - they have sold record season tickets.
