  1. Aye. I remember the matildas (Aussie national woman's team) playing the mens (boys?) under 18's national side. They were down 6-0 at half time. The point of the contest was to get the girls used to physically imposing teams and moving the ball on quicker, so not pointless. I suspect in any other contact sport (and a lot of non-contact ones) you'd find a similar result. Not sure why in football it's constantly raised. I will say this for the woman's game: They are tougher than the men. No Neymar-like rolling around the pitch when being breathed on. They generally just get up and get on with it.
  2. That's Ange-ball. Going to take a while for the central defenders to work out when to stick and when to twist. Same happened with Celtic when he took over - they copped a few hidings. The question will be: Will he last until it clicks?
  3. Yeah, that Rashica thread was a horrible plaice. ... I'll get my coat.
  4. Probably his best game for us, imo, was vs Newcastle at home. Him and McGinn playing down the right gave Newcastle's towering left back Dan Burn such a torrid time they had to replace him halfway through the 2nd half.
  5. Lies, damn lies and statistics Neither Dubravka or Emi kicked a ball straight to a stationary (and somewhat bemused) opposition forward. So that's 1 to Olsen and 0 to the others. Neither Dubravka or Emi had a goal attributed against them from what appears a basic error (parrying the ball back out into the goal area). So that's 2 to Olsen and 0 to the others. I think the issue is that we have to play different when he's on the pitch as he doesn't seem to have the confidence, mentality and - arguably - the ability to play the way we want, which breeds insecurity in the rest of the team. That gets seized upon in the PL - not so much in a friendly.
  6. So Newcastle has Pope and Dubravka - both keepers that can reliably fill between the sticks and of comparable talent. ... we have Martinez and Olsen. Night and day.
  7. Gabby Agbonlahor Should have left a club legend. Instead, left 6 stone overweight and Villa relegated.
  8. You forgot Januzaj - but otherwise a decent list
  9. It's been Thursday for 16 hours already! Even longer for you @Kiwivillan !!
  10. I've kept away from this thread on purpose. Now that I'm here and catching up on a few things - just had to say I love your diamond AV logo! A real standout amongst all the other PL badges. Well done!
  11. No no - you have that backwards. I don't read twitter. Ever. Too much garbage, regardless of topic. But I do read the ones that filter through on here. Some may still be less than reliable - but it's still better than trawling through all of Twitter.
  12. Those circles on the shirt - are they olympic circles to remind everyone that they got their stadium for free?
  13. I liked Wes. Deffo needed time, but there was something in there. But it didn't happen, we got Ollie Watkins and - despite him getting pelters on here by some - OW is clearly the better of the 2. Good luck to Wes wherever he ends up - but it ain't here.
  14. We're convicts. Edukation aint our thing innit?
  15. Ah yes. Let's conveniently dismiss anything else that might have contributed to the result..... ... you know, like Stokes being caught out before hitting 50 and it not being given. And, IIRC, we've played you twice in football (at least, in recent memory - going back 20 years). It stands at 1 a piece
  16. Ahhh.. Brendan McCullum. Wouldn't have a beer with the Aussies given what we just did. Clearly not in the spirit of the game. He'd never do something like that...... right? Oh the irony.
  17. Gerard Houlier. Pilloried on here during his only season in charge before bad health saw him step down. Took us from a counter-attacking team to one that wanted to boss possession, made the players train and eat properly (which really made Dunne and Collins mad), dared to mention the fond memories he had of Liverpool when we played them and despite spending large periods in the bottom of the table, ended up 9th - which posters here wanted to attribute to MacAllister!! We then replaced him with McLeish. About as far away ideologically as you can get.
  18. Oh please. Bairstow tried the same thing not 2 days earlier.
  19. That's why they broke from the church in a movement called "The reformation"
  20. You've captured the very problem with social media. Yep, blurt out whatever you think, whenever you think of it - true/false, doesn't matter... ... to a global audience. In what universe is that a good thing? If nothing else, blurt it out to your mates and see what sort of reaction you get before you decide to update mankind with your particular form of wisdom.
