Electric Avenue
Would be great to have success, stability and stick with the same manager for a decade or so. Chopping and changing just leads to lots of chaos.

Popular Post The Fun Factory
I think O'Leary did a similar thing when he was at Villa. I had a look in my old emails and have dug it out:- On behalf of the team and my staff, this is a genuine note of appreciation for your ongoing support for me since I sadly left my dream job at Leeds United and for the contribution you have made to the atmosphere that has typified our games here at Villa Road. From the outset, we knew that establishing a tight, robust relationship between the fans and myself to make the Club challenging with the likes of the Charltons and Middlesbroughs again. Collectively, we all want to see a team that is average, a team that wants to try to pass the ball square and a team that steps out in every game to try to pick up points. We have started off playing really well despite the Chairman’s best efforts, the team is doing okay at the moment and this is very pleasing as this shows that I am a really good manager and should not have been sacked at Leeds United. Did I tell you I was a club legend at Arsenal? Inevitably, we experienced growing pains last season but over the second half of the campaign there was a big coming together and a massive effort to secure the results which gave us that platform to continue to build and develop. We’re a different team from that now. I think this has vindicated my choice as manager by the chairman, who says I am like a son to him. The level of performance has been particularly satisfying. Even the most dyed-in-the-wool optimist might have struggled to see too many points coming from the run of games we were dealt at the start of the season, including the Charltons, Middlesbroughs and Boltons of this world. These teams will aspire to be right up there in midtable when the Barclays Premier League comes to a conclusion in May, and we should be challenging to be as close as we can to these established Premier League sides. That we competed all the way with each of them is testament to myself. The players enjoy coming to work, as they can listen to me telling them about my playing days at Arsenal, as I hold the club’s all time playing record for them. They are a good honest bunch of lads. Your backing of the team has helped a bit. It will continue to take time for the group to realise its true potential as a established Premier League side, but the foundations are strong now, the players' increased resilience will help them to deal with setbacks and to overcome them and the further strengthening of the squad by our great Chairman that took place in the summer augurs well for its continued development. But that’s our challenge over the coming weeks and months – to continue to strive to move forward as a Club and to build on what we have, an ethos and a philosophy which sees myself and the Chairman at the very centre of what we want to achieve together. Butterfingers
Nice letter, but time will tell. Actions not words. Can you not see the actions? High paid parasites shipped out-Young, hungry players in their place No more Heskey/Harewood type strikers signed-Benteke & Kozac signed for similar amounts (when wages taken into account) After 3 years of anxiety & relegation battles, stability & progress instead (early days this season admittedly but signs are great) The club running on a more even keel in terms of wages paid to players A complete re-vamping of players like Fabian Delph & Brad Guzan-Both of whom have developed into top 6/8 players under the current regime Lets stick with this bloke & get behind him. I honestly feel theres a lot more to come. The majority buy into this but you have the hardcore few who still moan. Lambert works with these lads on an almost daily basis. He is more equipped to decide what is best for our club than people like us (who care deeply about it.admittedly) Only one man can make the decisions & we need to trust that man. We've proved in recent weeks that we would all pick different starting line ups/ formations etc.We will never all be right & never agree with PL all the time. His job is to manage the playing side of things-We need to support him & get behind the team. We're moving in the right direction whilst shopping at the lower end of the scale. How can anyone criticise while we are improving whilst doing this?

Our progress will be determined this season. It hasn't been proven yet. Also your argument about the manager being best played to decided etc can be used for any manager in the world. Panto_Villan
Meh. Houllier was condemned for some ill-chosen words about Liverpool, and McLeish was damned for his methods more than his results. It's not *just* results and actions that count. Obviously nobody can tell the future but the signs so far have been good with Lambert. Also, to be fair to the community, I haven't seen much moaning about Lambert since we avoided relegation last season so I think you're being a tad harsh about the 'hardcore moaners'. Not presumptuous at all. My post has been based on the football played since the turn of the year. My argument about the manager being best placed can apply to any manager in the world. It cannot however apply to anyone who plays "football manager" throughout the world. Paul Lambert has forgotten more about professional football in the last week than many of us will ever know in a lifetime. The point of my argument was that whoever is in charge, be it SAF or Barry Fry, we need to trust & back him. Winning the 1974 Birmingham Subeutteo tournament does not qualify you to claim you know better. We are no worse than any in our "mid-table" pack & better than most. In addition, we are still improving whilst some are stagnating & going backwards. In addition, as much as you & your ilk moan about the standard of the football we play, we still play better than most in that group.
