sne
He was never worth £50m though and will never fully justify that price tag. Villa fans of all people should know that this is far from being a rule. While yes there are plenty where this is the case there are also many where this is not. Yes but that is because our scouting have been non excisting, that is not a how other serious professional clubs work
VillanousOne
it was the mistake MON made, buying English players who thought they were far better than they actually were, for ridiculous transfer fees, wages and agent costs. Look at what he spent on the likes of NRC and Warnock! NRC really believed and probably still believes he should be starting for England. With Man City and Chelsea and others happy to pay stupidly inflated prices for English players, that market has died for any teams outside the the top 4. The same problem is the reason why our England team is so average, the players all think they are the dogs bollocks because they were bought for millions and get paid millions, when in reality they are nothing special at all. Mantis
Yes but that is because our scouting have been non excisting, that is not a how other serious professional clubs work And even then plenty of other serious professional clubs buy flops or get really good bargains. Not saying clubs never get what they pay for but it's far from a rule.
CI
MON dear oh dear. You just have to look at the letting Cahill go and replace with Curtis Davies for £10m deal and it makes you so angry. That exchange alone has cost the club at least £50m

peterms
If 'The Telegraph' had stated that our budget was 30m we'd all be jumping for joy here but every club we enquired about one of their players would be rubbing their hands with glee adding millions on to the asking price. I really don't get the idea that transfer fees are increased if some rag guesses at a total figure a club might have available. Much more likely is that the asking price will relate to what a club thinks another might be willing to pay for that player, based on past behaviour, perceived level of desperation, possible alternatives, and things like how much the selling club wants the money, whether it can easily replace the player and so on. The idea that failing to say whether we have a small or large budget will be to our advantage is equally unlikely.

Must be the worst record in the Premier League?
markavfc40
James Nursey @JamesNursey How much #AVFC transfer business depends on who leaves. Desperate to shift Warnock & Hutton permanently I really don't get this bullshit. In Warnocks case he is out of contract in a few months. To pay his contract up now would cost less than a mill. Dunne is another who is out of contract in the summer. If our incoming business really is dependent on a player who is almost out of contract being shipped out then we really are up shit creek. There was talk of Liverpool paying Cole half the rest of his Salary now to allow him to leave.Surely with Warnock we would consider the same.No one is going to buy him now with 6 months on his contract and on salary he is on. dudevillaisnice
Ideally we get players in before the west brom game, if we were to lose to west brom with the scorelines we have done recently it would be disgusting and embarrassing, Lambert will soon understand what "pressure" is if we lose that game by a big scoreline. Big_John_10
I hope that warnock and Hutton story is shit. Spending while having those two on the books will not bankrupt and ruin this club. Being relegated may do that.

Daniel
Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is unlikely to spend much in January Has this been posted yet? Best part of it I certainly am not going down without a fight. Sound like we're already set for relegation.

This is based on nothing. It's just sensationalist headlines to grab attention. None of the quotes substantiate the headline Lambert has already stated that he has picked out his targets - I expect at last four new names to come in
