Would you take out a second mortgage and buy your next house before having an offer on your current one?

If I was a billionnaire who had just pocketed another billion I would.

If we can't shift hutton and Warnock will it bankrupt us? It won't be ideal but with the prem money going up this year, finishing higher should cover that issue.

Will sleep very soundly knowing that you dont, and never will have anything to do with the clubs finances. #notaclue

So you wouldn't have signed Peter Withe - because we couldn't sell David Geddis ?

wtf has that got to do with the here and now?

Because directors at the time baulked at buying another striker - but Saunders won the day......

Ironically it was saunders refusal to sell Geddis later on that partly led to him walking out of the club.

So....

Lambert should walk away? Or he should be allowed to sign who he wants regardless of the club's finances? what's your point?

My point is that to implement a very rigid sell to buy can be counter productive. If we can't shift Hutton \ Warnock at this precise time - it shouldn't prevent lambert adding to the squad next week. IMO current squad is dangerously week - It doesn't mean Warnock \ Hutton can't go out on loan somewhere (loan window for championship clubs closes later).

Like I said earlier - I hope that Lambert\Faulkner\Randy have agreed a squad size, wage bill as a desired level. Equally I hope they would all be flexible enough to operate slightly above or below this figure in the short term.

Doesn't include wages. Randy was worth approx £600m prior to our takeover if I recall correctly, has spent approx £200m on Villa and sold the Browns for approx £600m. If we have to start breaking even, so be it. Lerner has invested in Villa and cannot continue to do so at the same level!

I'm all for getting the finances in check for the future, but if we get relegated then it's going to be harder.

So based on Transfer Fees alone we've lost £54,750,000?

That is shocking, and seems somewhat unbelievable considering the profit made on Downing, Young, Milner and Barry. I guess all those piss poor signings made for the odd £5m here and £8m there add up, and it's a shame that we have now have to pay for the poor and overly expensive transfers made by MON, Houllier and McLeish. Also shocking that out of all that money spent on transfer fees, the only player of any worth that we have left from it all is Bent.

blackburn updates - villa close in on cresswell

Couple of sources Hutton to Rangers (Glasgow)

I think we will get Olson or Cresswell

Am I missing something here? Why would someone tweeting blackburn updates know that Villa are closing on on Cresswell (from Ipswich)?

Is it a different player?

It's assumed that Cresswell joining us means Warnock will join Blackburn - and also probably means we aren't buying Olsson.

Equally ignoring the wage bill is can be counter-productive.

Whilst I too hope there is some flex in any figure agreed upon, we have to realise Lambert is working under a constrained mandate and in the long run that's for the best. Of course the squad is weaker than I want it to be but I'm a hell of a lot more optimistic looking at this years squad with Lambert in charge than I was looking at last years squad with McLeish in charge.

Just listening to Football Weekly podcast - apparently QPR's current wages to turnover ratio is 183%. That's before they've even signed Dawson/Defoe etc...

Thought we were bad....

That's shocking. How on Earth can they keep this up? They remind me of a more extreme version of us under MON. Can see them ending up like Portsmouth.

Isn't their owner literally one of the richest men in the world? I'm pretty sure on several occasions he has stated he wants to build them up so that they are eventually competing with the big boys.

It is worrying that all of these teams around us are investing at a time when we're undergoing extreme cutbacks.

Interesting post. Almost forgotten in all this is that Lerner is a dollar billionaire and not a sterling one. Also shows how good Wenger, Pardew and Moyes are and to a degree Redknapp.

Depends if UEFA have the balls to enforce their financial fairplay regs or not.

City may have just snuck in at the right time as they can now show a huge increase in legitimate income, but I don't think QPR are going to able to blag selling the naming rights to their ground for £400m.

And if they can't qualify for the CL (should they improve enough with all this cash) is the owner going to stick around?
