Wolfsburg just signed Olic so maybe not there. Id expect him to go Ajax as usually top dutch teams snap up the best players before they go abroad

Im not a big follower of the Dutch league Zatman so this may be a silly question, but is it normal for Dutch teams to spend big on players?

Always struck me as a league with relatively small budgets.

Top goal scorers from Holland have a somewhat mixed track record in the PL.

I think some players really stick out like a sore thumb, very few people would have doubted that the likes of RVN and RVP would adjust to our league.

Others (as you have said) have been hit and miss, with some, quite frankly turning into joke figures, alves made our signing of Balaban look shrewd.

With limited finances id be wary of spending £10m on any player from the dutch league.

not really but Ajax did pay 14 million for Sulejmani and they usually sign the top players in that league like Suarez, Huntelaar and then move them on

Top work Ajax fan.

Can't pretend my knowledge of modern Dutch football is all that hot, but with the way the club is going now, scouting players for cheap/reasonable fees will be a big part of our future, it seems.

I like what I've seen from Strootman, and I think Sporting Lisbon picked up an absolute bargain in Van Wolfswinkel for under €4 million Euro.

But for every good players like those, there must be plenty of Samaras, Alaves and Postma types to trip over, to get to the good stuff.

Thanks!

I think Van Wolfswinkel and Dost are about on the same level. But lets not forget that the Dutch and Portugese are much lower level than England. It was a good signing though from Sporting.

Needed to think some moments about Postma haha! Completly forgot about him, the most famous Postma in The Netherlands was good at speed skating ;) And the goalkeeper is more famous because of his little porn movie than his saves lol.

Great information Ajax-fan and many thanks for that! I'm sure Numan will appreciate the update and I would like to think we would be looking at spending what money we might find down the back of our sofa on one or more of the players from your list.

Adam Maher given you rate him somewhere near Van der Vaart must be well worth a look before someone else gets in there and does a deal. As far as a Spanish/Dutch/German head coach is concerned I think coaches from the first two of these nations would be more associated than the third with "total football" but the head coach job is not as yet vacant at Villa Park as we already have "Fergie 2" in place (he also had a dire start in his job). :winkold: We might also need to go abroad for our next boss as news of our fall from grace may not have got outside the UK as quickly as it did to Wigan.

Germany is playing modern football too nowadays! Great youngsters they got, extremely talented. I noticed Aston Villa is very low in the table. If I am honest I have no idea if it the coach/managers fault or simply not enough quality players or well it if even can be both as well.

Oh wow Bayern scored :D

Ajax was very close to sign him last year but it went off the last minute. Instead we bought Sigthorsson and Bulykin. We got Siem de Jong as well. So he wont go for sure to Ajax. Feyenoord is still interested but they cant afford him yet. They are just back from 0 (bankrupted).

PSV spended over 30 million last summer, and Ajax about the same 3 years ago. Dutch teams are at best when they dont spend any money somehow.

Sulejmani was most expensive with 16 million. Normal big players will be bought for abour 8 million like Suarez and Huntelaar etc etc. Twente just bought Tadic from Groningen for 8 million for example.

I wonder what Heerenveen will get for real. Heerenveen always overprice their players! Its annoying hehe. They also will sell their wingers Assaidi and Narsingh. Van Basten (their new head coach) wouldnt want to start at his new team with all his good players left. Wolfsburg (Volkswagen city!) is very rich so Heerenveen will try to get every penny they can get now.

Thing is, Dost had a fight with the Heerenveen managers and coaches last season at Heerenveen, he didnt get any back up from the team. He still wants to leave because of this reason. That will lower the price. I think he will leave for 6-7 million. Heerenveen will get another huge overpriced transfer again if they really can sold him for 10 million..

You serious, not even players like Vertonghen/Eriksen/Van der Vaart/Sneijder/Huntelaar/Van Persie/Van Nistelrooij/Ibrahimovic/Suarez/Maher/Afellay (and the list goes on and on and..)? :P You are right about Alves though. But he was stupid, he had an iq of a fish lol.. He did well in the Dutch League, but he scored most his vs the lower tabled Dutch teams in unimportant games. 7 goals versus Heracles (newcomer back then)! I have to say, same counts for Dost so far. Thats why you shouldnt spent 10 million on him, thats such a huge gamble. 4-6 million is gambling too but at least thats a fair price for both teams.

A little extra information from players from my not so small list..: Schone (free) got linked with Feyenoord/Twente/Schalke 04/Ajax. Narsingh (1year contract, so 4-6 milion) linked with PSV and Ajax. Our head coach talked with both players and both had a ‘good feeling’. Think they will be signed up very soon! So Aston Villa needs to be quick now. Dost has 2015 contract. That wont do his price any good too.

I think with this statement from his agent ends our chances of signing him.

Heerenveen hot shot Bas Dost has snubbed a move to Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old last month spoke positively about the prospect of joining Alex McLeish's side, but is now said to have set his heart on moving to a more competitive club.

Italian agent Carmine Coviello has been employed to sound out interest in Italy, with Inter Milan said to be considering a move.

Wolfsburg and Valencia have also been linked with the Eredivisie top scorer, who has hit 28 goals in 30 league appearances this season.

Coviello told Sportmediaset: 'Dost has expressed a willingness to play for a big club next season and we are probing different clubs to try to take him to Serie A.

'All I can say is that we are offering him to teams who can spend €10m-€13m (£8m-£10.5m), because this is what Heerenveen demand.

'He turned down Aston Villa because he wants to play for a top club. We are working on pleasing him and we expect some responses.'

Not a surprise, we don't compete at all in the Premier League and nothing is coming out of the club to suggest we will in the future, so fair enough Bas. He must have noticed we never win games anymore under our current twonk at the top.

That hurts, and is very depressing. Sometimes it's still hard to believe we are where we are.
