SPECULATION: Bas Dost (Heereveen)

I think with this statement from his agent ends our chances of signing him.

Heerenveen hot shot Bas Dost has snubbed a move to Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old last month spoke positively about the prospect of joining Alex McLeish's side, but is now said to have set his heart on moving to a more competitive club.

Italian agent Carmine Coviello has been employed to sound out interest in Italy, with Inter Milan said to be considering a move.

Wolfsburg and Valencia have also been linked with the Eredivisie top scorer, who has hit 28 goals in 30 league appearances this season.

Coviello told Sportmediaset: 'Dost has expressed a willingness to play for a big club next season and we are probing different clubs to try to take him to Serie A.

'All I can say is that we are offering him to teams who can spend €10m-€13m (£8m-£10.5m), because this is what Heerenveen demand.

'He turned down Aston Villa because he wants to play for a top club. We are working on pleasing him and we expect some responses.'

Not a surprise, we don't compete at all in the Premier League and nothing is coming out of the club to suggest we will in the future, so fair enough Bas.

That hurts, and is very depressing. Sometimes it's still hard to believe we are where we are.

it is depressing and it's not acceptable for Villa to be in this position. It is laughable that the City of Birmingham hasn't got a club that can compete for the very top players. The buck stops with Randy Lerner (just as it did with Doug). He has to spell out his ambitions for the club this close season - if he has not got the means or ambitions to challenge for honours then he must do the RIGHT thing and find people who have.

Well what a surprise.

The long term damage Lerner is going to do to this club is going to be severe.

Another year of Mcleish, a hat trick of relegation battles and what sort of manager or players will really want to join us?

And still people defend the man.

We have arguably the most enviable league in the world, watched intently by the rest of Europe on their satellite and this 'hopeful' has only just noticed that we are'nt a competitive club

Thank God we missed that one then, his eyesight must be shocking.
