Aphex Twin Select Ambient Workt Vol II

Erm, I have the CD but it's all scratched so listening to a download which includes 'Stone in Focus'.

I don't know why, but I never really gave this guy much of a listen in the 90's.

I think window licker was the only thing I knew he'd done and that's because I remember the video being amazing on MTV when I was a teen.

I randomly read a couple of articles about him in this week and started reading his bio on Wikipedia etc.

I can't believe I missed Selected Ambient Works 85-92, it's freakin awesome.

I think some of his more 'mental' stuff might not be to my taste, but what a talent.

I remember going to see Aphex Twin 'play' live in about 97 (dates are hazy during this period of my life), and it consisting of him walking on stage, lighting up a spliff and pressing play on a tape recorder. It was all kinds of brilliant.

I saw Aphex Twin a few years back. I was high as a kite and extremely paranoid about the shady looking Dubliners surrounding me. My mood wasn't helped by these weird distorting faces on giant screens to the left and right of the stage, intermittently disrupted by what appeared to be porn footage. All I recall was a thumping bassline that never seemed to end, only incrementally rise in tempo to match my racing heart beat, and some high pitched looped electro shit. About 10 minutes in I noticed a man behind me looking shifty as ****, so I bailed.

Well it had me smiling all the way home!

Yeah, it's fine if you remember they're a village band and basically noodling away. Last track has glimpses of something else in it which if it was a posh western record we'd describe as sampling. But I'm going to have another listen later to pin down what it was.

I'm usually very anti noodling and I do suspect that if it said Santana on the packaging I would be against it. But it's a style I like and I have nothing else like it on CD so it'll get a solid couple of days of play and then after that we get the acid test of how far back in the CD box it slides....

Cheers for the nod btw.
