Gone: Downing shows real loyalty to us

Thats crazy, if Downing goes we will have sold three England internationals!! How in any warped sense can that be good?????

Having players on the pitch is what wins things, no prizes for cash in the bank.

Sometimes I am amazed!!!!

:bang:

Only in a BUSINESS sense was it a good thing. Of course for the squad it isnt. I'm saying we didnt get fleeced by these players leaving. They didnt leave on frees like many stars have done at other clubs. When a player wants out then all you can do as a club is get the most money you can for him. We have done that three times with these players.

I knew what you meant R.Bear and I agree....Some people on here go around looking for people who post anything slightly postitive to counter post it with a negative comment, sometimes they forget to read the post they're replying to.

Stuart Downing’s move from Aston Villa to Liverpool stood on the verge of collapse last night as The Anfield club dug their heels in over the size of the fee.

“Stuart is a full England international with years of top flight experience, we have put a value on him and we will not come down from that” said first team coach Steve Clarke.

“As a club we can’t be seen to be paying less for him than we did for Jordan Henderson or Andy Carroll so we’re all hoping that Villa will see sense and allow us to push the fee over the £20 million mark.”

“We’ve spent the best part of £60 million on those two lads so we’d look really silly if we got Stuart for less than £15 million, Villa need to seriously look at what they’re asking for the lad or we’ll walk away from the deal.”

Villa Chairman Randy Lerner has vowed to stick to his guns and has expressed amazement at Liverpool’s behaviour.

Speaking from his ranch in America:

“Stuart is a good player, no more or less than that. Liverpool’s bid of £20 million is ridiculous and is an insult to anyone that knows anything about football.”

“We accepted their first bid of £10 million and the one after that for £12 million but they keep coming back with more, it’s almost as if they’re saying we know nothing about football.”

Both parties are hoping that negotiations will succeed as the player has gone public with his desire to move to Liverpool.

“As a boy I dreamed of playing in front of the Kop, who would have thought all those years ago that I’d get to play alongside the likes of Henderson, Carroll and Charlie Adam, this really would be a dream come true” said an emotional Downing.

Seen in the paper we want near the '25m' mark for him :crylaugh:

Hes barely worth 16...

I think 25m is about right really.... If you compare it to the henderson deal.

25m? Thats 1m more than Milner, and 7m more than Ashley young...

Downing is an over-rated player who arguably had his best season at us last season mainly because players weren't performing and he seemed to be in the right place at the right time with most of the goals that he scored. I do like him and hes one of the best players in our side but 25m? Come on...:s

Its a good move if we have said to Liverpool 25-30 Million.

- He has two years left on his Contract

- We do not have to sell

- We would have to get a replacement, to which there are not a lot to choose from especially left footed

- We all know Liverpool have money to spend which will work against them.

- If they are not prepared to pay 25 million for Downing, how much must they want him.....?

- Henerson went for 20 Million

25 -30 Million every ones a winner...............!

We all know Henderson was overpaid.... If Charlie Adam went for 9m and Downing goes for 30?? Am i the only one whos talking a little bit of sense here?? :S

As ive said i would allow him to go for 19m and try and persuade N'Zogbia who is a better player in my eyes for 9m.

Downing if he's here next season will be on the very first teamsheet right through to the last game of the season, if he stays fit.

It's not just his worth surely, it's his loss to the club that prices a player. How much are we going to have to pay to get a replacement

if we sold him?

How many 26 yr old left footed wingers of his quality are out there?

What is the going price for a full England International who was both his teams players player and the football fans player of the season last year?

Please don't say N'Zogbia because HE is a replacement for Ashley Young in my book. NOT Downing. He's nothing like SD.

£25M in those terms doesn't sound so ridiculous if you ask me!

Does it matter what we get for him if we cant find a replacement with the same quality? Sometimes its not to do with money but how weak it leaves the team for the season ahead. Downing is among the top rated players in the opta stats. Read the article on F365.com
