Newcastle replaced Nolan with cabaye and with ben arfa back and Tiote stay they will have a fine midfield on paper. They sign another decent striker and could be top 8 if they keep their players

Possibly. Actually, no you are right, it is good on paper. But Cabaye has no PL experience and Ben Arfa has precious little and Tiote will only be in his 2nd season and will be the leader if that ends up being the midfield. The signing of N'Zogbia who allegedly wants to go there, might make me re-think my stance, but at present if you were to write a list of what the best bits of Newcastle were last season and compare it to a list of who is likely to leave this summer then it would be an almost identical list and that spells trouble, not on paper but on grass.

Kaiserslautern have bought Germany-U21 striker Richard Sukutu-Pasu from Bayer Leverkusen. Looked like he had a boatload of potential a few years back, but hasn't really done much of late. Only cost €280k though, so relatively low risk. :thumb:

True but then you have to assume that Enrique won't be there next season so not sure he will be in that side.

The midfield looks decent on paper but football isn't played on paper so we will have to wait and see how the new boys adapt to English football. It does though look like they are shaping up for life without Joey Barton.

Their defence though is still in need of a lot of work and their main problem remains a total lack of squad depth.

Newcastle seem to be signing as many 'cult' hero type players to appease their fans while the players of substance Nolan, Enrique and Barton Etc. Can't get out quick enough.

Could quite easily see them getting dragged in to the relegation fight, Demba Ba is hit and miss IMO and they really missed Andy Carroll's presence (injured/sold).

Look at it that way or look at it as in give him a 3 year deal, plays well, but afte 1 season, he'd b in the position Ashley young was this season! 5 years gives u 3 years security, possibly

4.

Yet if he's injured you have a Habib Beye situation where you don't want the player but because of his contract he won't get any better offers anywhere and you have money being eaten away.

This guy is younger and better, they will get offers whatever happens IMO.

7 subs for league games is encouraging this kind of thing. It enables clubs like Manchester United to keep 'stars' happy by being able to guarantee them a minimum of half an hour off the bench a dozen times a season. It will probably increase to 11-14 players on the before much longer. :(

i see zoltan stieber has joined mainz for 1.5m euros

Bollocks. 'Gladbach, Kaiserslautern and a few others had been sniffing around, he had a superb season in 2.Liga last year. If he can make the step-up a level, he could very well turn out to be one we should have held onto. C'est la vie.
