Hmm.. Always liked him but... he must be nearing the end of his career and a 2 year contract is probably a good deal for him. OR ... Does he not want to play in Div 2 next season where I can see Warks heading( I realise you don't have to be prescient to work that out). My main worry is that they might lose Jeetan Patel to a Div 1 team .

Yeah, it's just a bit odd mid season. Jeets is 36 isn't he? But I reckon he'll stay, or at least I hope so. Also a few new players are at least getting a chance to come through, at last.

dunno he nearly left us for Sussex a few years back but we improved our contract offer and he stayed. Doubt whether Warks were willing to offer him another 2 year contract given hes 36 soon but there was talk about a benefit so maybe Surrey are offering more than a benefit is worth.

We are gradually lowering the age of squad which is a good thing.

I dunno, considering how we usually end up 2/3 down for 70 odd runs with depressing regularity, it's probably about time some caution was brought back. Currently 80/2, though Westley was looking decent and just got a good ball early after lunch.

Just pick better batsmen ;) Philander is so good. quinton de kock is very very good. A lot of people underestimate this South Africa  side but I would take their seam attack over ours any day.

yeah I agree they've definitely been under-rated prior to this series. Too much talk about de Villiers. This pace attack sounds like it's been on fire today. Only Jennings has given his wicket away really, sounds like Westley was naive after lunch but until then he looked a decent foil for Cook.

Yes I only saw before lunch and westley looked very equipped for test cricket.  Malan nearly joined Warwickshire a few years ago. Always thought he was  t20 specialist or was. Lets see how he does. Is he a better batsman than Moeen I don't think so.  I just think its strange that they have done a U-turn with regard to picking Moeen as a batsman to now picking him as mainly a bowler. He batted at 4 and 5 in the winter and scored runs now back to 8. Very strange!

Perhaps the next test will be the one that is a close contest until day 4 or 5! Still lets enjoy this, the pattern says we'll get whupped next test :P

Alas most of the afternoon was washed out but we had great fun drinking beer having a sing along in the rain with the "Yorkshire tea" brass  band and rather amusingly chanting "PG Tips "  at them :)

I'll be honest, I'm glad they didn't. The tendency to fold in the face of a big score is not great for Tests. We should still win this, probably within 2 sessions, maybe by lunch if we get an early wicket, but it's nice to see a bit more resistance. Need more Cooks and Elgars
