The_Rev
84 still wins. Also, am I the only person in the world who thought Crash was a terrible movie? Awful people behaving like dickheads, regretting it, crying and hoping for some kind of empathy? Struck me as cheap rather than complex, but they did play emotional music in the background when the Asian shopkeeper cried so I guess I've got a heart of stone or something.

Rodders
Mississippi Burning - completely unaware of this film until last night, really quite violent / disturbing / depressing but utterly compelling. Gene Hackman's character is one of the most enigmatic characters I've seen in a while - and he's very good obviously. CA: Winter Soldier - being "encouraged" by my geekier SO to fill in the marvel blanks in the films I've not seen so far, also watched this one lately, although it seems unfair to call it a Marvel film, as it's a very solid action / thriller in it's own right without the slightly backhander opinion that comes with the collective description of a 'comic book film'. Haven't seen the first Captain America either so might check that one out too.

PaulC
so it was... i thought jaws was widely accepted as the 1st summer blockbuster and the film that started the trend though Spielberg killed it. 70s was a great period for cinema but only ruined by those big blockbuster disaster movies like Towering inferno. The Sting was a classic, You had the Clint Eastwood films like Dirty Harry and Magnum force as well as High plains drifter, plus other ones that have already been mentioned. dAVe80
Watched Boyhood the other day. I get that it's ground breaking, that it was shot over 12 years, but I just found it a bit dull.

BOF Posted June 24, 2015 Moderator Share Posted June 24, 2015 I'm still with Rev on this. Yes the other lists have very good movies in them, but even if you were ignoring the year completely, you'd struggle to pick 5 more pop-culture movies than Ghostbusters, Gremlins, The Karate Kid, The Terminator & Spinal Tap. The fact I also thought Crash was a completely over-rated feel-bad movie might mean we have similiar tastes though
Stevo985 Posted June 24, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) Watched Boyhood the other day. I get that it's ground breaking, that it was shot over 12 years, but I just found it a bit dull. Me too. I only got halfway through, and I never turn films off halfway through. In fact, I'm usually the guy who gets annoyed at people who say "I only lasted 20 minutes and turned it off". But Boyhood was **** boring. There were good parts to it, but it was strung out over so long. Edited June 24, 2015 by Stevo985
