L’equipe has a pay wall so can’t actually read the article, but it’s been repeated in other sources too.

Mercato. Parisian Carlos Soler targeted by a club in the top 4 of the Premier League

PSG's Spanish midfielder, Carlos Soler, has never managed to win since his arrival in Paris. The former Valencian, 27 years old, could leave the Parisian club during the summer. It arouses the interest of Aston Villa, according to L'Équipe.

So far, Carlos Soler has never really managed to win at PSG. Arrived in Paris on the last day of the 2022 transfer window from Valencia where the Spaniard was a real very influential executive, he had signed a five-year contract. But, in lack of playing time, the midfielder could already leave the Parisian club this summer and fly to the Premier League, according to the newspaper L'Équipe.

According to our colleagues, the 27-year-old Parisian arouses the interest of Aston Villa, fourth in the championship, and contacts have already been made for a few months with the club coached by Unai Emery, former coach of PSG (2016-2018) and Valence (2008-2012).

Emery will know him well and can hopefully rejuvenate him.

Also, he looks like Morgen Sanson. 😁

What I remember from him at Valencia is he's box to box and a very good penalty taker so this could be a long term Luiz replacement I think.

Also has CL experience at two clubs which is important.

Season 20-21 he scored 11 goals including a hat trick v Real Madrid so could be a really smart pick up.

This makes a lot of sense. Was in the Valencia youth team when Emery was their manager so he'll know about him.  He's out of favour at a nut job club that can't get the best out of any of their players. And he's going to be reasonably cheap as a result.

And he ticks the box as the rotation option for Luiz and McGinn. Whether we sell either of them or not, we need someone else who can play their roles so that we can give one of them a rest from time to time.

Well run teams do good transfer business early in the summer. Badly run teams panic buy overpriced tat like Anthony as the window closes. If we got Soler and Baena signed early it would be fantastic.

Very much smacks of an Emery/Monchi signing. Spanish, was at Valencia (albeit after Unai), can play multiple positions and available for transfer.

Transfer Market have him valued at around £20m which, if we can get him for anywhere near that, could be a very astute first CL era signing.

Loan to buy,  obligation for his book value (~€7m) next summer

Also Mochi-esque in that his stock has fallen a little and it hasn’t worked out terribly oh well at PSG but Emery and Monchi will know what kind of player he is and can be

This would be a good idea. Loan and fee plus obligation.

I think however they will have people interested in buying outright so we probably need to do that.
