Summer Transfer Window (2024/25)

Dream summer of unrealistic targets list time me feels.

  • Ferdi Kadıoğlu is rumoured already agreed (think it’s BS) LB . €30mill
  • Raoul Bellanova RB €18-20mill
  • Georgiy Sudakov €40mill +
  • Martin Zubimendi €40mill +

sell Moreno/Digne, Cash and the deadwood, then also whoever Monchi / Emery decide can be sacrificed if needs be for the greater good (ie Ramsey, Luiz) … I’d try and extend Zaniolo’s loan if poss for another season and add the return of Mings & Buendia and we’ve raised the quality of the first team and squad.

Would you prefer Chiesa or Jack at Villa next season?

Chiesa

but neither is happening… and maybe that’s a good thing. JG would be a bad signing (that’s if he was even interested) imo, big fee and big wages (huuuuge) as well as an over inflated ego and the media circus… probably past his best too. I just don’t like him these days either…

It’s important for us to manage and balance our wage structure and transfer spend too… blowing too much on one or two signings might not be the wisest or most sustainable approach and we don’t want to upset the balance and harmony in the squad whatsoever… no one should be paid significantly more than the others unless they are genuinely and proven to be of greater importance or offering more contribution and impact for us than the others…

Again, Chiesa has been there and done that on the international stage… he was constantly outstanding and a repeated match winner for a team that does not possess the quality or breadth of quality it used to in previous times… sadly…

JG has done nothing of the sort.

Anyway, moving on…

I love how we are more of a team and a “united front” rather than a one man show or circus…

obv don’t know what the transfer strategy is but… I think we have the numbers in terms of forwards or attacking players… and it’s good/better to have young players with potential…

Players like Bailey (what a player he is now), Diaby (more and better to come), Ramsey (top talent, huge potential, has been brilliant for us, so unfortunate with injuries but HE WILL BE BACK) and Rogers (showing so much promise and potential) are really good options to have…

I’ve always been a Buendia fan… will be great to have him back. If not for injury, I think he was going to have a brilliant season for us… maybe the next…

I think it’s more about who we would move on or not sign and whether we could genuinely upgrade without overspending on fees and wages…

I think Unai would maybe prefer someone like Williams who is young and only going to get better…

Signing more established players for big fees and wages doesn’t always work… and could be seen as more “short term”.

I like the approach of building a relatively young side (with a few experienced and inspirational leaders such as Emi and McGinn) that grow and develop together, with a team spirit and unity that progresses and flourishes…

I don’t think we need big money signings… we need intelligent ones…

but I think it’s fine to rate and admire players that we aren’t likely to be signing either… or to dream a little bit…

I love this club, team, manager and the players… we have an excellent and highly likeable squad… I don’t dislike any of them… don’t see any idiots or over inflated egos… Unai’s qualities have rubbed off on the players… humbleness, dedication, work ethic… everyone is so invested and it’s lovely to see…

not really many we need to get rid of, of the players who have remained at the club (not out on loan)… there’s mainly really only Chambers to move on and probably Olsen… with his contract due to run out fairly soon too?

I just love everything Unai has done and there is even more to come from these players…

A few more key additions would make us stronger but… I don’t feel any desperation or urgency.

I just fully trust in Unai and hope he gets whatever he wants… he knows better than everyone and way more than any of us lot here…

It’s gonna be wonderful to have Mings, Buendia and Kamara back too…

We must get rid of everyone who’s out on loan (that we couldn’t or intended/preferred to sell)…

Get rid of them asap:

Dendoncker

Coutinho

Sanson

-

think we need to find a permanent home for Archer too

Duran is the better option for us but he’s got to be dedicated and focussed and patient…

Doubt we’ll bring Philogene back…

Some of the names or free transfers being mentioned don’t seem appropriate either… if we’re going to be competing in the CL we need to set our sights higher now and becoming stronger not just fill out the squad with numbers. Fees and wages have to be spent wisely and give us good returns in terms of performances and contributions…

Forgot about Hause… need to move him on for both our sakes and get his career going again. Has given us good service but he is part of the past, not the future.

Sound like a few blokes who play for Stevenage or somewhere like that. Wrexham have really distorted the League One market already.

Think Monchi and Unai have done well to trim much of the fat already, a bit of ruthlessness has been required in that sense and they’ve displayed some of that. Not much left now… must find permanent moves for Dendoncker, Sanson (likely to stay at Nice), Coutinho… and Chambers and Hause.

Might be time for some wheeling and dealing… players like Digne and Cash could be high up on that kind of list… get big wages off the books and bring in better and younger players… more suited to Unai’s style and system. Players with longevity that can grow and develop with Unai’s team…

I don’t want a single key player to leave or see the benefit of doing it… Luiz is key and huge for our future, same goes for Ramsey the poor guy has just been injured and many have forgotten how good he has been and will be… a player like Martinez is simply irreplaceable. Bailey and Watkins have just signed new deals and are loving it here!

The only way I see such a player leaving is if a huge offer came in and there was genuine interest from them… less likely with most clubs having to curb spending and be wary of FFP/PSR… JJ’s value is probably at it’s lowest point now anyway and will only rise (maybe massively so when gets going for us again) so it would be a stupid time to (under)sell him and Unai has already spoken out about his desire to work with him and keep him at the club…

More youngsters could leave like Kesler and maybe even Iroegbunam… can we get a good fee for Archer again??

We must improve central midfield depth… especially defensively.

More and more games, more injuries, fatigue and suspension to deal with…

we need a stronger squad.

I think we'll see a good few outgoing, hopefully the likes of Dendoncker, Sanson, Coutinho etc; but also Digne and Cash that you've mentioned are prime candidates to be moved out.  It's not that they are bad players, its as you say we can get better and their stock is relatively high after a couple of good seasons.  Players that are younger, lower wages and better suited to Emery's system can be brough in to replace them.

We can't let the team stagnate, we'll see players leaving most summer windows I reckon, to keep the team fresh.

I’m pretty sure ‘Martin’ is a real name, other than that it’s nonsense.

Frimpong (he's deffo signing now he wore our shirt) and Kosta will lock down the right back spot for the next decade. Flog Cash.
Ferdi whatshisface and whoever is left from Digne / Moreno can lock down left back. Ferdi can also cover every other position twice over.
Then we need cover for Kamara. Absolutely no idea who but an absolute unit who is technically good.

erm... yeah that will do.

From what I remember about him, he's very injury prone and that's in a much less intensive league than the prem.

exactly this, his body has let him down too often over the last few years for it to be a bet worth taking.

Yep, totally agree. Keeping a squad relatively fresh and growing and developing together is important… we can’t hold on to ageing, overpaid or substandard players for too long or we will, as you say, either stagnate or decline. Sentimentality always plays a part and has its positives, but can also be a negative when we don’t upgrade where we can and hang on to players that need replacing and improving upon.

For example:

Rogers has injected some energy and hunger/desire… I really like seeing young players thrive so long as they possess all the key attributes and are good enough…

glad we signed a player like that rather than an overpaid has been who collects his money and contributes F all… that’s what the old Villa used to do…

He’s done so well that he’s starting games (albeit at a time of injuries and disruption to the team) but even from the bench, it’s great to inject some life and verve into games by bringing hungry and determined players onto the pitch…

The new, Unai Villa, is far superior…

We have been linked to Palacios…

maybe we continue raiding Leverkusen..

And also Varela at Porto…

Def need another quality DM because Kamara won’t be back for a while… Great to have options.

Can Ferdi cover the CM position should Luiz and/or Kamara be unavailable?

It looks like he can cover everything from left back to striker to chief scout to sports nutritionist to Chief Rabbi.
