Ajax and Frankfurt are miles above what we faced tonight.

If we're still in the raffle for a Champs League place come March, doubt if Unai will use this as other than opportunity to give minutes to fringe players.

What would be the point ?

It's a potential trophy, which is something Villa have lacked for so long.

A couple of reinforcements in January and Villa will be strong for both PL and Europe.

What would be the point of winning a trophy?

Why do we watch football at all? The ultimate aim is to see your team actually win something surely?

As well as a trophy, the experience of playing the next level of club up the chain before meeting Bayern/Real etc.

Everything in Emery's managerial history would suggest he'll take the opportunity to win a European trophy very seriously

I quite agree.....and it would be so Villa-ish to go into an ECL final, having finished in 5th in the League, and needing us to win the trophy to tip the UEFA co-efficient in our favour to secure a chapions league spot for 5th place......

Not for the round of 16

Tnt sports said we would find out who we could potentially be playing on monday?

That sounds to me like there might be two draws

The draw of the last 32 and then the draw for final 16

You are incorrect.

The last 32 is drawn Monday. The final 16 is drawn Feb 23rd

This looks like a historic failure to understand what makes Emery tick. He likes to win, particularly European trophies.

This looks like a historic failure to understand that Emery wants to win the champions league not the conference. When push comes to shove the Europa and the FA Cup will both be dropped…but only if they have to be.

That would also look like a historic failure to understand that we cannot win the Champions League this season because we are not in it! 😂

Prize money so far amongst the English clubs this season:

One of the almost evil stealth gains by the top European clubs was the extra money by having a higher UEFA coefficient, which means that Man United earned £28.4 million from it compared to Newcastle's £4.5 million, despite Man United finishing bottom of their group.

Here is where we are at

Hopefully legia draw betis or olympiakos and go out as it would be a nightmare having to play them again with the bad blood between clubs

Ajax is the one I'd want to be drawn against out of those. They are a big historic European club with plenty of heritage - Would be a great tie.
