They have so many players…an excess perhaps… Dunno who would be attainable or affordable… How have Dominguez and Sangare done there and are they actually any good? Mangala unsettled… decent player? They allegedly owe millions of pounds out to agents and even smaller business's that deal with them struggle to get paid. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. The whole issue for them with the FFP charge relates to the fact that they sold Johnson at the end of the window for more money but that meant it goes on the next set of accounts. They have appeared to be really reckless… that doesn’t really surprise me… Chelsea too but they’ve at least brought money into the club…. not sure Forest have done much in that regard… any manager would have difficulty dealing with so many players there… Players like Sangare and Dominguez were highly rated or sought after before they went there… if they became available… maybe even for cut price fees, might be worth a look… and could really help us out in the DM department when all we have is the wonderful Boubacar Kamara… Edited January 24 by Jas10 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Even more interesting, only one signing for a PL first team, Radu Dragusin (spurs). While the winter window is always low activity, this is a really quiet window. FFP definitely keeping clubs from throwing money around. Another big plus for the non big 6 clubs. Big 6 clubs can't destabilize challengars by breaking up winning teams. People can wishcast all they want about Dendoncker replacement but it's just as likely not to happen. Because I think we as Villa fans associate every decision to be made to affect this season and this season only. If Unai believes he can make UCL without Dendoncker, then he will be trusted to do so. Clearly didn't rate him. Unai and Monchi are planning and using the transfers not just for this season but for the next 1-3 seasons as well. Whereas, previously, we would have held onto Dendoncker for cover, paid him his wages, played him for maybe 180 more minutes in total for the remainder of the season with a relatively dissatisfied player, we're taking our chances elsewhere. Not only does it allow us to move an unmotivated player with potentially a fee that would have been lower in the summer had he more or less not played for a whole season, it allows Unai the opportunity to either use players like Tim or reorganize other players in the double pivot (McGinn/Tielemans/etc) and use different players that weren't getting a lot of playing time elsewhere (Zaniolo, Duran, etc) So I'm not saying we won't replace him, but it is not a guarantee that just because Dendoncker left means there will definitely be a replacement coming in. Much like the hand wringing over selling Danny Ings last winter, Unai was comfortable with the squad we had and made an astounding return to Europe. If he's comfortable enough with the squad even with the Dendoncker departure, so be it. Letting Dendoncker go also has a good knock on effect that Unai and Co. will listen to the players (within reason) and if they want playing time, much like JPB, then they can take their chance somewhere else if they're not rated highly here. So we don't run into situations like bomb squads. If you're at Villa, then you're here to compete for a spot. Popular Post DJBOB Posted January 24 Popular Post Share Posted January 24 (edited) Another thing to add is that the removal of Dendoncker, Chambers, Traore, etc but not replacing them in the winter window also opens up the opportunity for wages for new contracts to select players in the summer (maybe Bailey coming up) as well as being able to offer a higher wage to a summer signing. This kind of foresight is what has sorely been missing from Villa over the years. Future planning, continuity planning when some players are sold or not renewed, etc. etc. is important for the longevity of the club and to allow us the freedom to make smart choices instead of veering from here to there with the Drinkwater's and Samatta's and Coutinho's of the world just to "get someone in" as a lot of VT posters are clamoring to do. Dendoncker has played 120 minutes this season with 1 start and that's with Kamara serving a 3 match suspension. Are we going to get a loan fee, cover someone's wages, re-train another player just to play 120 minutes for the following 17 matches? It's not necessary.
