Someone who has had two ACL injuries is key. As Mings has just done his a 2nd time. Surely nobody can do theirs 3 times

In woman soccer something like 10% of all woman who play until 18 will tear their ACL at least once.  Megan Rapinoe tore hers for the third time in 2015 before going on to win player of the tournament in the 2019 World Cup.

In the states injuries to professional athletes are talked about very openly.  When an NFL player injures his knee we know which ligaments, possible cartilage damage and a time for recovery within days.  That definitely stinks for the players privacy but it also has normalized ACL injuries. It's a season ender and nothing more.

so....

£6m loan fee?

2m extra fee if transfer is not made permanent.

£19.5m optional purchase fee, that becomes permanent if X number of games are played (alleged to be 15-20?)

£8.5m in "hard to reach" extras.

So if we did sign him permanently, thats roughly £25m total (loan fee plus purchase fee), then going up to £33/34m with hard to reach add-ons.

tbh, unless he's terrible, 8m total loan fee and sending him back, versus 25m total fee if we do sign him, not a huge difference, he would have to be pretty poor to not at least be worth considering in the summer.

At least we get to take a look at him and decide, rather than a total punt.

What makes this a loan if we're paying €27m?

We aren't.

The loan is 6m, then 2m on top if we don't make it permanent.

If we choose to make it permanent it's 27m total, Inc the loan fee (21+6).

If he plays 20 games (alleged), the option to buy becomes an obligation to buy.

Obviously, no idea if what is reported, is true.

Except for hockey, with the notoriously vague "upper body injury" or "lower body injury."
