There is more competition in PL now compared to before. Before the same four got the champions league money each season, the last two seasons 7 different teams have qualified for CL. That means more teams needs top class players in their squad, either to defend their CL status or getting back into CL. That makes it a question of supply and demand, number of top players is more or less fixed, but number of clubs chasing them have increased. In addition the Saudis are throwing big money after players, means there are more money in the system, that brings transfer fees higher and higher. I get the record scorer thing, but this idea that he shouldn't move to Bayern spewed by idiots like Michael Owen is just ridiculous. Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are one of the few clubs that could genuinely win the Champions League. I'd actually say with Kane added their squad is certainly comparable to City's and possibly even better. Alphonso Davies probably the best left back in the world and still only 23. Mazraoui on the other side is also right up there as one of the best full backs in the world, was great for Morocco at the world cup. Upemecano, de Ligt, Kim min Jae are great centre back options and all either at their peak or still to come into their peak. Kimmich is a wonderful footballer and massively underrated, can do everything. Goretzka is brilliant in central midfield. Laimer and Gravenberch are both really solid options too. Sane, Gnabry, Coman are exceptional wide options and Musiala is one of the best young players in the world. Neuer and Muller are veterans of the squad and add great experience given they've won everything in the game. Add Kane to that squad and I would actually say they could win the Champions League in the next 2 seasons. They won it 2 years ago when they actually had a top striker in Lewandowski so can definitely do so again without having to rely on Choupo Moting as their main striker. Edit: they won it 3 years ago.
