I really hope signing defenders like Pau isn't going to be his downfall. The premier league is all about athleticism and he just doesn't seem to have it 😬

Not just about Pau Torres, Klopp has done a job on Emery today.

Villa are miles off...

He’s a great manager and we’re lucky to have him but let’s be real, he’s not Klopp or Guardiola. We don’t give those managers enough respect on here.

Both of those managers have a level of quality that Villa can only dream about. In the end a manager can only do so much.

Fine margins can make a difference. All the preparation in the world can go out of the window in a flash after some sloppy play in the opening minutes. Those fine margins when applied to all can make a good team look like a pub team.

Everyone was off their game today, including the coaches. The combines effect looks massive when nothing goes right.

This will eat at Unai now. I think the Newcastle game was harder to judge as it's the first game of the season, buoyant crowd and an horrific injury to our biggest leader. This was just a bad performance.

Thankfully we have a little break, and getting a win at home against Palace gives us the same amount of points as a win away at Anfield. I back Unai to leave no stone unturned in motivating the players and putting right the wrongs from this game.

Emery is an elite manager. Nowhere for the players with no backbone to hide anymore.

The manager is on it 99% of the time, and the players have always had the benefit of the fans blaming the manager above all else.

We are pretty much all right behind Emery, if not everybody is, so the players that feel like they can phone in a performance every now and again can get ****.

We won’t be an elite team if certain players decide when they want to turn up.

He’s got a problem. He has no idea who his best defence is. He’ll work on it I’m sure.

He's got a few problems now - not helped with our injuries.

Probably Unai's biggest test since our disasterclass against Leicester/Arsenal/City during the beginning of the year.

What is his best XI? What is his best back 4? How do we build up against a high press without Buendia and JJ?

He is trying to apply the same philosophies that carries us to success last campaign but with a different personnel. Diaby is a skilled #10 able to torch teams in transition but can he win a duel in our own half? McGinn has been revitalized as a wide player/forward thinking midfielder but he's no JJ or Buendia in the build up. Konsa/Mings played so many games together, it was almost taken for granted. He's got his man when we're on the ball with Pau but off the ball - what can he do to hide the defensive weaknesses?

Lots of questions and the break comes at a good time for Unai to review what his best XI is and how to deploy them.
