Remember when people were worried that Gerrard would leave us for Liverpool? Let's cross that bridge when we get to it, if we even do.

That bridge has been blown up by a combination of Russian, Ukraine, US, UK, Chinese and South Korean missiles.

There’s a big difference between those two though. For Gerrard to be offered a better job, he’d have to be successful at Villa first (sounds absurd now). Poch on the other hand has proven himself already and could receive offers from day one.

I still think it would be worth it to appoint Poch if he said yes, but the risk of him suddenly leaving would be real.

4 points from 2 games and an Australia Cup under his belt. Maybe Dwight Yorke was the trainee manager we should have hired after all 😛

You can see his letter to the board now.

We hear a lot about Gerrard being a winner but Yorkie is arguably more of a winner than Gerrard.  Gerrard has a UCL, Uefa Cup and a number of domestic cups, whereas Yorkie has UCL, 3 PL titles and a couple of domestic cups.  If Gerrard had wanted to really win things then he would've gone to Chelsea in 2005 or Munich in 2012 but decided to stay with his boyhood club who while regular CL spots, only once were looking seriously like they might win the title once from memory in the Gerrard playing years yet Chelsea were winning the titles around then and obviously Munich win regular trophies.  So he was one of the finest PL players ever but not a massively focused on winning mentality.  We wouldnt have hired Yorkie obviously but he won more than Gerrard comparatively and moved to win trophies whereas Gerrard stayed at his boyhood club and while Liverpool was nothing to sniff at they werent really the powerhouse they are today under Klopp.

You could use so many examples of players having a 'winning mentality' but turning out to be inept at management.  It's the dumbest argument in favour of Gerrard.

I agree, most of them turn into pundits that we see before and after the game on Sky.

Too true. To be fair if it was just about having a winning mentality a few of us could probably manage a Premier league club, maybe works a little better in Scotland where the skill level is not as high, but unfortunately it takes far far more than having a passion to win a game, down here, as Gerrard is now finding out.

You can tell managing Villa in this league has hit Gerrard like a steam train, something he wasn't expecting so much, an I truly believe the end is nigh!

I want an expensive, moody, petulant, foreign manager, who gets us playing fabulous match winning performances, trashes journalists, stomps angrily out of press conferences and creates havoc on the touchline.

Is that really too much to ask?

Did we ever see a list of the managers Gerrard beat to get our job?

They must have been truly shit, if indeed they existed.

Here’s a list of favourites just before Gerrard was announced:

Steven Gerrard 1/25 Paddy Power
Frank Lampard 14/1 Paddy Power
John Terry 14/1 BetVictor
Roberto Martinez 16/1 William Hill
Kasper Hjulmand 14/1 BetVictor
Paulo Fonseca 14/1 BetVictor
Graham Potter 16/1 BetVictor

Potter aside, an extremely underwhelming list.

People need to temper their expectations if they think the list will be much different now. Poch and Tuchel ain’t happening.

That was the letter Gerrard wrote to the Liverpool board but it landed on Purslow’s desk. He’s been intercepting Gerrard’s post for years now. A quick alteration to the signature, he writes letters from SG to himself all the time, and Bob’s your mother’s brother.
