That is a strong line up. I think it helps to hammer home the point that an awful lot of the player that turn out for our U23's are still young enough to be eligible for the U18's.

Kobei Moore and Mikell Barnes on the bench for the U18s for the first time this season.

Unfortunately losing 2-0 at half-time, in what was a pretty important game against Fulham, with them being just two points ahead of us in second place, as it stands they're now five points ahead of us, Palace also winning, so we're currentlysix points behind them at the top of the table.

Asking a lot to make a comeback in the second half, an early goal might give us a chance, our form slipping over the last two or three games.

Finished 4-1 to Fulham, without having seen any of the game not sure how reflective that scoreline was of the match, their second and third goals were both penalties and their fourth was scored deep into injury time. A shame as a win for us would have put us in a very good position.

Better news is that Palace only drew their game, so Fulham are top of the table, and whilst we're five points adrift of them we do have three games in hand, if we can find some form again we might still have a chance. Also Tommi O'Reilly scored his first goal, and Mikell Barnes came on in the second half to make his U18 debut.

No idea why but looks like our game that was due to be played this weekend against Leicester has been postponed and will now be played in May.

According to the Brighton website we're playing them twice on April 3rd, in the league in the early afternoon and then in the FA Youth Cup  in the evening, so not sure why the cup game can't be played next weekend as Brighton don't have a league game this weekend either, would surely be better for both teams than playing  twice on the same day.

More good news for us, highly rated young left-back, England youth international, and another one that's been training with the first team squad.

Crystal Palace beat West Brom 7-1 meaning they go top of the table and seven points clear of us. Dropped to fifth now, but have four games in hand over Brighton and Spurs in fourth and third, and three games in hand over the top two Palace and Fulham. Postponements and losing Bradley Young to the U23s haven't helped us, but we play one of our spare games away to Arsenal on Tuesday.

Not really to be honest, there was an highlight reel on his instagram at one point and from that he looked like a tricky right winger that likes to cut in on his left foot, looked very skillful to be fair. I think he might have been injured earlier in the season. There are a few compilations of him on youtube dating back to 2014, so seems he's been at the club for a while now.

Seemingly there's a meeting on March 16th where they will map out the futures of the U23 and academy players.

Quote

"We've got a technical board meeting on March 16. We've got some really talented youngsters. One of the positives of a really tough year with the pandemic has been able to get the young lads to train with us.

"Starting when we went to small-group training, coming back from the first lockdown. The difficulty is having two first-team bubbles and players not being able to hop from one to another."

Smith added: "We've got some really good players. The Ramsey brothers (Jacob and Aaron); Jaden (Philogene-Bidace) has just signed a new contract which is fantastic; Carney (Chukwuemeka), Kaine Kesler; some young goalkeepers have done really well, the likes of Filip Marschall and Akos (Onodi).

From the link:

'Goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo (Ayr United), Rowe (Hereford), D.Revan (Weymouth), Ben Guy (Portadown), Jack Clarke (Chesterfield), Cameron Archer (Solihull Moors) and Tyreik Wright (Walsall) are all currently out on loan, with their futures set to be decided at a meeting next week.'

What do we expect, in terms of these guys? Sinisalo and Revan have been doing well on loan, but is it too late for them? And are the others all set to depart?
