My favourite cover is below, Coil didn't merely re-record or perform the song in their own style, they gave it a whole new, powerful, meaning.

Not sure, but one or two may find this interesting. Black Sabbath covering Smoke on the water in the early 80s. 

Ian Gillan in his drunken stupor had agreed to join the band on a drunken night out with tony and Geezer. Dio had left the band by this point. They used to do it as an encore for the benefit of Ian gillan really.
