cyrusr Posted June 5, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted June 5, 2020 So as part of the bandcamp no fees day, i picked up Marissa Nadlers Covers 2, which includes, amongst others a cover of The Cure's "A Forest". (no video I am afraid): https://marissanadler.bandcamp.com/track/a-forest Whilst this cover is a couple of years old, it has recently been tackled by a couple of other bands:- The Discussion (Laura Pleasants from Kylesa's new band): https://thediscussion.bandcamp.com/track/a-forest-the-cure Though they have been playing it live, this was released last month. Then this came out last week from Behemoth which is a slightly different take on it: Just found it weird to come across a number of different covers of the same song by different artists in a very short space of time! I'm a fan of the cover version but, I'm yet to her a version of A Forest which isn't shit, I genuinely believe it's pretty uncoverable
blandy Posted June 18, 2020 Moderator Share Posted June 18, 2020 I’ve learnt 2 things already today, and it’s only 8:20. Never click on anything by “Independent Country” or Behemoth. 1

They do have some good tracks (The Satanist album is probably my favourite) and some pretty bland stuff. The problem with this is that he got a vocalist from a different band (Niklas Kvarforth from the Swedish band Shining) who is awful. 1 hour ago, bickster said: Not one of those is a patch on the original and not one of them really interprets the song in any kind of interesting way. None of them really do much with the the song. I ddi discover that Carpathian Forest (another black metal band) did a cover of it which is much better than the Behemoth version at least and probably a bit more interesting than the Discussion or Marissa Nadler's versions, but again doesn't really go much further than the original. Although being a black metal band I'm not sure it will be entirely your cup of tea Edited June 18, 2020 by cyrusr
bickster Posted June 18, 2020 Moderator Share Posted June 18, 2020 @cyrusrnope, that genuinely sounds like a bootleg made on a recording walkman at a Cure gig in about 1983
