The Rémi Garde thread

Changing the manager isn't going to make the slightest difference all the while Randolph the red nose clown is in charge. How many managers have we had since MON left, 4,5? and every season we've been in a relegation battle because of the lack of investment.

I don't get why people keep using 'he got us to the FA cup final' line, forgetting it was a cup final final we were absolutely humiliated in, one of the most one-sided finals i have seen, and where we couldn't have complained if Arsenal had scored double what they did.

That of course is to blot out the memory of he semi final where we destroyed Liverpool.

Things went badly wrong for Sherwood but it is incorrect to pretend that he achieved nothing last season.

I don't buy the line that Garde should be doing better with Sherwood's misfits than Sherwood did.  They are an absolute bunch of misfits. It would be impossible for anyone to make an impact with the current squad - there is no combination of players or tactics that could compensate for the complete and utter lack of firepower.  We have literally no goals in the side.

Someone needs to completely overhaul the squad 10-15 out and 10-15 in and decide on a consistent style(s) of play.  I'm not sure whether Garde is the right man for the job but I do know that changing managers every dozen games would get us nowhere

I'm giving Garde time until he has bought half a dozen of his own buys in and then judging him.  This season is a write off now - I'd spend the time blooding youngsters and giving my Championship players game time and then pray for a miracle in the summer

This ^^

It's the players making ridiculous mistakes, poor passes and bad decisions coupled with a sprinkling of occasional lack of effort, a touch of bad luck and low confidence. I don't see how any of that is the managers fault really.

I think some of it IS Garde's fault, but not as much as many fans like to attribute to him. The players get away with too much. Someone was saying on Sky Sports recently (might have been Souness or  Carragher) about how players get too easy of a ride these days. They were basically saying that if a defender messes up, the fans are too quick to say it's because the manager can't organise a defence; or a team lose because of poor individual performances and it's because the manager didn't set them up right/the tactics were wrong.

Our players are mostly shit, and too many of them aren't working hard enough, or are making basic errors. That's their fault.

If a manager can't have any effect on that then whats the point in them?

Also his negative approach in games has played a part IMO.

It's mainly down to the squad of players but he's had zero impact at the moment. That's a concern for me.

I think Garde inherited a mediocre side already in freefall. Does he have the experience to take on players with negative issues, probably not. In that respect, maybe he was always going to be the 'wrong' appointment. He needed to take on a mid-table team upon whom he could make his own stamp, without everything going wrong that could go wrong. Somebody should have told him 'hey, this is Aston Villa you know, Remi, they used to be good but......'

As much as I have the highest Regard for Arsene Wenger or Alex Ferguson they both achieved having been given time.

I am not sure Arsene would be a good choice of manager to rescue any relegation bound team......I don't think it is his forte.

You need the right types for that task.

I agree established teams with a sound platform to build on.

Why?

They seem to stick with their managers too long of anything. Unless you mean because his attitude stinks? In which case I agree.

What about a promotion specialist like Warnock? Getting him in now would give him a good period of time to get to know the squad, retain/jettison where necessary and bring in new additions where needed. Moyes would also be a reasonable candidate if Randy fancies a crack at a last ditch survival effort.
