Transfer Speculation January 2016

He always looked good when he was in the academy, and when he left. I'll never understand why he didn't get a chance.

Same will be said about seigrist when he doesn't make it here

Reality is the blokes that see him day in day out don't think he's got enough about him to get that shot

When was the last time we played an U21 keeper?

Wasn't Afobe so poor this season that Wolves dropped him?

He's struggled as they've lost a lot of quality around him....last season him-sako-Dicko was really ripping up the league but Dicko got a bad injury so teams can concentrate on just marking him out of games.

Not sure how well he'll step up tbh but would've been a good signing for us looking long term.

We won't be able to compete with any premier league team because of the new TV money. We'll have to get lucky to be able to come back up from the championship (or get a new {rich] owner) and stay up. Next season the team who finishes last in the premier league gets £99m (minimum) in TV money.

There are many ways in which this makes no sense.

If we are 4 years in the Championship, it could be decades before we are back in the Premier League, and could conceivably never return.

we are 80% likely to struggle to get promoted, but there's only a 40% chance of that.

It's the theory that if we get promoted then everyone will be £100m ahead of us

The illogical part of it comes thanks to the fact that the money won't actually be in their back pocket, it'll be in the players bank accounts, the clubs will still spend the cash, they'll also spend it on overpriced overrated and overpaid English players

So for example Bournemouth stay up this year, spend £100m on their squad next year, we get promoted. their squad in theory should be a lot better than ours by then, but it probably won't be, they'll be buying serie a flops for £16m

The quality isn't going to get much better with all this money. It's just going to get more expensive, as a result we'll just have to get cleverer with what we're doing, which to be honest isn't going to happen with our current recruitment set up

The thing with the money is it's not like clubs are getting peanuts now, we were told about 3 years ago we couldn't go down as a big deal was coming in then. We stayed up....and continued spending 20m net as is Lerner's perogative.

If by some miracle we do stay up how much do people really think we'd spend. I'd guess at the same as usual as the man wants to sell and going on a mass spending spree hasn't been on the agenda since 2009 (yes last summer was entertaining but it was funded by losing two key players so we had to strengthen).

Yes going out of the PL will be a blow but Southampton were out of the league for 7 years, Palace 9 years and Stoke for 24 years at which time established clubs were spending millions on millions and yet all 3 will likely finish in the top half this season.

Teams stagnate at the top level, we have, the North east lot have. Who's to say when we do eventually return to the prem teams like Swansea will have their time to get relegated or Everton will have sold their key players and replaced them with bargain basement players and so will be falling down the league, you just don't know what will happen in even 5 years time as you'd have got long odds on all this happening to us in May 2010.

We just have a losing mentality in the club and we do probably need to drop a level to attempt to get the winning feeling back as it sure won't happen in the prem anytime soon. Then positivity can hopefully return with a promotion and we can attack the premier league again in better spirits, hopefully with a new owner.

Agree with what you're saying. Teams like Bournemouth and individuals like Mahrez and Vardy or even (on a lesser scale at the moment) Joe Lolley can come from absolutely no where. There will always be good players / staff out there that will want to make things happen and won't cost the earth. If we weren't rotten to the core then we could've spent £50m really wisely this summer and been well up the table but we are rotten. Stoke have been a good example of shrewd business and WBA. So the money isn't a big worry for me, in fact I think it will force us to become better with more limited resources. Also, look at SHA, Rowett has absolutely naff all available to spend and look what he's done there. We need to get out of our ivory towers and work hard as soon as we have a new ownership in place. I wish we were ran like Exeter - maybe that's what it'll come to!

It really would not surprise me at all if that happened

I would be absolutely gobsmacked if we spent decades in the Championship. I honestly don't know what causes people to think that?

Because the club is run by complete muppets, who seemingly don't give a toss about the club and it's proud history?

Would appear we are struggling to attract people this window. Mandana, Debuchy and Remy all look like non starters.

Who in their right mind would join us?
