Posted September 13, 2014 Moderator Share Posted September 13, 2014 I think it's because within the media he's built up as somebody that we all love and believe is the long term future of English football whereas amongst fans he's considered overrated and generally disliked because of his nasty streak and willingness to cheat and leave a foot or an arm in against an opponent. That creates a bit of tension, and that generates comment. There's something unpleasant about having something forced on you that you don't rate, didn't want, find slightly offensive and simply isn't anywhere near as good as the people forcing it onto you believe it is - he's the footballing equivalent of the new U2 album. 4 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
