I think there really might be something in this Joshua Harris link mainly based on this tweet from Matt Law back on the 14th May:

@preston76 Hi Michael, do you have an email address I can contact you on?

https://twitter.com/Matt_Law_DT/status/466585979462365184

@Preston76 is Michael Preston. Michael is the Director of Public Relations for Philadelphia 76ers who are owned by Joshua Harris & David S Blitzer amongst others.

This would tie in with the claims in the media that talks have been ongoing for a number of weeks.

Moments later when people started calling him out on it.

Matt Law @Matt_Law_DT · May 14

lot of people will be disappointed if they base rumours on my Twitter movements.

Yet now an article he was involved with was published stating that the American billionaire in question has actually been in talks for weeks?

Was Matt Law just covering his tracks with this follow up tweet?

Next season is going to be the season we drop down.

Seems no one sees us as attractive as we all hoped for.

Another season of lambert and Lerner is something my body, mind and soul cannot take.

Each passing day. Each passing week. The less info we get of potential new owners the more worried I am.

Chin up, there will be better days ahead for Villa.

Well it certainly wasn't a straight up denial. Very surprised everyone took it at the time to be so, considering how usually any statement can be picked apart however you want to read it. Lambert, Lerner, Joe Cole and probably others have all said things that if you want to believe you'll see something in what they say.

I heard more information,

There are few terms that is still being negotiated which hasn't been agreed yet (not the price which is agreed apparently). Other than that everything seems going good.

It might also be a group of 3 or 4 partners. With Al-Baltan having most of it. A little bit less than 50%.

If I heard something more I will say it here later.

Unless this all happened over the past 4 days, it simply isn't true.

Randy has been scouring the US market for a buyer for around 12 months, BOA/ML have been brough to look at other markets. The very recent stuff I heard is that there is very little firm interest in buying Aston Villa. And exploration of overseas markets is in the very early stages. Any talk of a price being agreed with a group from Saudi is as far from the truth as you can possibly get.

This info is from someone who spoke to Randy towards the end of last week.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but I think the assumption that Randy will share details on any negotiations with an outsider is also wrong.

As your information has found it's way to the internet, it is in itself proving that your source can not be trusted with sensitive and/or confidential information.

It's much more likely that, if we are negotiating, the buyer (whoever that might be) is the one that can't keep information to themselves. I'm sure BOA/ML will keep quiet, and Randy doesn't have to tell anyone anything before it's time to announce an offer has been accepted. He might not even be fully aware of what's going on, as I'm sure BOA/ML have been given enough information to answer any questions a buyer might have. And even hold preliminary talks themselves.

I don't know how these things happen, but my guess would be that BOA/ML are the ones discussing with a potential new owner, they can agree a price in principle within what Randy has authorized, verify that the buyer has the cash is claims to have, show the club's finances, and so on. Then, and only then, they go to Randy as say Mr X is willing to pay this amount. Would you accept an offer on these terms?

It's also very likely that the buyer has someone handeling this on his/their behalf. That might not have the apperance of a deal that is close to be made, but I guess things could suddenly move very fast once the practical issues have been discussed by intermediates.

Think thats reasonable assumption of the way things work. Randy's is a pretty hands off guy - the BOA guys will do all the filtering - leaving RL to finally approve/reject/amend any deal.

However there we articles in the local press last week that nothing was happening - and that would tie in with the above. I hope I am wrong - but I would be suprised if a serious bidder was in the frame at this time.

That guy who said it takes 3 months to finalise a deal must be talking rubbish because when Lerner brought the club 8 years ago there was no where near that time frame. And remember that at the time the shares were held by thousands of individuals and he had to get agreement off 90 odd % to sell to him which took weeks. This time all the shares are in one place and it's a private transaction between 2 individuals without stock market rules probably so the only thing we have different this time is the fit persons test which so long as they are not convicted crooks seems simple to pass.

I reckon if both parties want the deal to proceed things can happen very quickly!

However I think we are way off that yet!

PS Abdul for General!!!! :P

I have a feeling that Abdul is one of Khaled's financial backers... ;)

Well these rich folks tend to only deal with other rich folks, especially in the Middle East? They are usually trying to out do each other on who has the bigger deal going?

All Abdul needs is a dodgy keyboard and Nicky Keyes e-mail address and we can harang him off the board!!

True, it was also mentioned that they had a well run club that hadn't had much success in a long time. 76ers fit that script.

Just read on Twitter that CNN in Canada are reporting Harris and Blitzer are in advanced negotiations with RL about buying us.  Can't seem to find anything on the CNN website though.

Birmingham Mail is also reporting it...

Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who were behind the American Idol TV show, have been scouring England for a football team to buy that will add to their impressive portfolio

Billionaire Americans Josh Harris and David Blitzer are looking at a takeover of Aston Villa, according to reports this morning.

The pair, who recently bought ice hockey and basketball franchises, have been scouring England for a football team to buy that will add to their impressive portfolio, and have now turned their attention to the Premier League, according to our sister title The Sunday People.

Harris and Blitzer know Randy Lerner - who put Villa up for sale last month - and have been discussing figures for the past few weeks, with the price falling to around £150 million.

The duo are investment experts and have previously specialised in ‘distressed’ companies.

They have been using leading figures at top clubs for advice about a purchase.

Harris and Blitzer have been behind many success stories, including the American Idol TV show and a leading cruise line.

If the pair decide to take the plunge it will be a big boost for Villa, but could also spell the end for boss Paul Lambert.

Several of Lambert’s top players were promised fresh pay contracts at the end of the season.

Fabian Delph, Gabby Agbonlahor and Ron Vlaar are all due to thrash out new terms as they enter the final year of their deals. But agents have so far hit a brick wall as they have attempted to broker agreements for their clients.

Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner is part of the FA delegation in Brazil and so far Villa have added Joe Cole and Philippe Senderos to their ranks.

Losing key players is a worry with interest from QPR in captain Vlaar, who is a key figure in the dressing room.

The centre-half has grown in stature in his two seasons at Villa and is attracting attention with his displays at the heart of Holland’s defence in the World Cup.
