$200 Million Takeover

Heard he is interested. Just checked the net and seems KKFootball picked up on this quite a few days ago..  Guess it may have legs as he is usually spot on.

Hmm I just have this feeling that everyone is working on the frogs and prince principle in that if we all name enough American billionaires one of them will turn out to be the buyer.

I stopped reading this thread and posting on it about a week ago on the basis nothing was happening. Just thought I'd come back and check if I had missed anything....

I still think we are miles off being sold or having a serious bidder. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think I am.

For me, I just don't want it to be with billions and billions. I don't want to simply buy success - it doesn't prove anything other than money wins.

I take it you were furious when Lerner bought the club and started spending lots more than most teams? Were you wishing for the days of Doug when Lerner was spending cash fast trying to buy success?

**** nonsense to be honest mate.  I follow football because I love the game and Aston Villa were the club closest to my heart growing up.

In my lifetime, I've seen us win TWO TROPHIES.  That's 27 years of winning, essentially, **** all.  I have no entitlement to winning things.  I'd love to see us win another European Cup; I doubt this will happen.  Despite how most people feel about certain footballers, I love the fact we've fielded Agbonlahor, Albrighton, Delfouneso, Gardner etc. as local lads playing for a local team.

Chelsea have none.  Man City have none.  If this is the route we all want to take, fine - let's just get bought out by someone who has no emotional connection to the club and sell our soul.  If there is substantial financial backing, the youth setup will be obsolete; or, to further, it will exist but be pointless.  See: Chelsea, Man City.

If you're asking me what I'd prefer; a backer throwing £1bn at our playing staff at us being instantaneously successful or having a poor owner who cares for the club, but we get relegated I'd take the latter everytime.

This post epitomizes why a lack of success has become acceptable to some of our fans.

Its a fine notion to have home grown players in your team but will our academy ever produce enough quality at the one time to form a successful team in the Premiership?

a ) People, including yourself, need to **** off with this "lack of success has become acceptable", "lowered expectations" nonsense.  We've won 2 trophies in 31+ years - 0 trophies in 18 years.  Of course I accept that we're not a top team, for **** sake.

b ) Depends what you define as successful.  A league winning team, though?  No.  No academy will.

It's not your acceptation of not being a top team that I'm challenging. It's your acceptation of relegation as long as we stay within the threshold of traditions long gone within the top tiers of the league.

To put your quote into further context you would rather be relegated than have the success that Manchester City are now having if it meant exchanging old traditions for investment thereby losing the identity of the club, the soul of the club as you describe it.

Have Manchester City lost their identity due to this investment or has that awareness of Manchester City been enhanced around the world due to increased investment?

Furthermore have Manchester City lost any fan support due to this investment or has that support been increased with more bums on seats.

Would you have kept our old training facilities at Villa Park or the Lerner financed changes now and when we do get new owners if we do at the very least start to compete in the top six again with a cup win or two would you still want to go back to what we have now as long as we stick with tradition over investment?

The soul of any club is the fans and rather than that soul be decimated by change it would actually grow stronger.

I think some people would be happy with us winning the league cup every 20/30 years just so we can say atleast we didn't buy it. **** that, call me gready but give us all the money and trofies asap.

Hi all go easy on me, this is my first post! So you all have probably no reason to believe me but I'm a residential care maannaager and the electrtian who works for out company has a son who works in and around the dressing roon areas on match days, he reckons the deal is done and its only a matter of time before its announced. He also says it will be an American buyer. Lambert is aware of all of this and when sold will apprentley be give extensive funds and be given a year to prove himself.I know this is nothing you've not all heard before but thought I would share the information.

i have seen villa win european cup, super cup, 2 league cups and the league.............. and i want more so i think people with their old beliefs ( nothing wrong with that ) should face the facts that we need to step into an industry that no longer harbours them sentiments and thoughts ( and i hate it ) . the good old days will never leave me but i'm a realist and firmly believe you have to invest loads of cash to achieve what we once had. Blackburn started this buying the league philosophy and i'm affraid this is the only way forward. so yeah we need a billionaire to have villa as a pet project and pump us with loads of money...UTV

i'm new to waza so welcome. i have heard things to but due to some type of premier league rule you cant announce anything for 30 days after putting the club up for sale. that date is 11th June before any announcment can be made official anyway.

I hate the idea that it's only possible to succeed by being richer than other teams in your league, there's no longer scope for organisation, or team work, or good planning, they're all secondary to money. It's made the manager increasingly irrelevant and the players disposable. It's taken the values of hard work, patience and development out of the game and it's removed part of the fun of the more level playing field of times gone by. The game is massively worse for it.

I hate the idea, but I understand it's true, I know there is no other way; so I'm happy for us to buy success rather than fail, and disappointed that we have to.

My feelings exactly.

Yeah I also agree with this.

But then, ask Man City fans if they are even slightly bothered by the money when they are running onto the pitch celebrating winning the Premier League again. Truth is, I think if we were in that situation, the vast majority of us wouldn't really give a hoot at how much money was spent to get there.

Looking at it objectively it's bad for football of course, but, it's just the way it is.

Would Tevfik Arif be classed as an American buyer?

this is just another name in the mix of many, so who says he's defo interested. i think we'll have to wait and see where this lottery ends up and who is the eventual winner. i'm guessing it could be someone we haven't heard of yet........UTV
