Your The Most Overrated Aston Villa Player Of All Time?

Well in terms of overrated managers (and I know a lot will go for Paul Lambert) GT has to be overrated for me

O'Neill.

Bearing in mind that hundreds of people turned up at Villa Park when he signed-I never understood why, and that some still rate him now.

I think that he is the worst manager that we have ever had, but whether he is or he isn't, his apparent rating level easily makes him the most overrated manager that we have ever had.

couldn't agree more

he'd taken us as far as he could when he left and yet it was only when the money he'd wasted became apparent that the tide seemed to turn, don't really want to flood the thread with my opinion of MON but id had enough of him long before he went

same as the players that left, the fact that we replaced him with shit and went on a downward spiral elevates him to something he wasn't

Ha ha, you would need to add a touchette more argumentation to back up a bonkers statement like that.

Think there is a very long list of managers in line before you get to MON as the "WORST MANAGER WE EVER HAD".

But I suppose fans have a different perspective depending on how long they've been supporting the club.  :D

For what it's worth Nicky Shorey once took one of the biggest bollockin's of all time at BMH from Martin O' Neill.

Yes. I'm sure it happens all the time in training. Well it certainly did that day. :P

I remember a match at Craven Cottage where Shorey was substituted and walked off VERY slowly and looked over to O' Neill and said "w*nker" very publicly as he reached the touch line.

I guess they weren't the best of pals.

Remember that well, it was as clear and distinct as Pardew's "****ing old ****" the other day.

not the worst manager we have ever had.....but contributed to the most financial damage to the club.

very few did like him, but Mellberg detested him.

but hey, I guess,its not a popularity parade.....MON wouldn't care a jot anyway.

I am surprised someone of your vintage has said that Richard. You'd be as aware as I am just how much of a mess this great club was in when he came in. For the way he turned this club around in such a short amount of time was nothing short of remarkable. The club was in a massive decline. He got it going in a forward momentum within months. He turned us from an absolute shambles of a club that had just been relegated to the second tier, was on its knees and rotten from top to bottom to one that finished runners up in the top flight all within three years.

Whilst achieving the above he purchased unknowns in Platt and Yorke for less than 500k for the two of them. Those two players went on to be sold for over 17 million and the sale of Platt alone allowed Atkinson to build half a team. He of course also purchased God. From top to bottom, from canteen to board room he reshaped the club. He managed to do all this whilst also keeping Ellis in check.

The guy deserves the freedom of Birmingham for what he did. Overrated? absolutely no chance it would be impossible to over rate Graham Taylor during his first spell.

I did say it would be a controversial opinion Mark

It's not controversial, it's just plain wrong.

Has anyone mentioned Stuart Downing. A functional winger at best with a right foot that is solely for display purposes only.

£20m to Liverpool was a robbery any Scouser would have been proud of.
