R1chuk
Replaced Baker on bench at last minute. Shows how much Lambert rates him.

BOF Posted January 4, 2014 Moderator Share Posted January 4, 2014 I can't help feeling Lambert has given his players an out by saying what he said about the cup, context or not. Psychology is a funny thing.
Ulver
Sounds like the kind of performance you'd expect from a team who's manager has basically given them an excuse to lose
P3te
The team picked makes no sense to me. Surely were were lads that a rest would've benefited, and there are lads who need game time. Very strange given we "could do without" the cup

smetrov
Lamberts on the brink if we loose today - the whole of the national media will be baying for blood..... Dont think it especially when were 11th in the table. No but I believe the national media will scrutinize his every move - every match will be billed as v the 'team who dishounred the FA Cup' - every player who snubs us will 'didn't want to join a club whose manager isn't interested in winning trophies' - were not media darlings at the best of times .... Papillon
Benteke. Is he a one season wonder? Nah, not in a million years, he will return but the reactions last year were pretty stupid. As soon as a player hit form over a considerable time he is suddenly world-class, right next to Suarez (who at the time was under scrutiny) and so on. Nonsense of course, many players have scored 19 goals and looked immense in the Premier League over one season. Benjani Mwaruwari, Roque Santa Cruz, Benni McCarthy and Mickael Forssell have all been around that tally if I remember correctly. Benteke started the season brightly in terms of goals, although two of them were penalties. He is not going to be a Carlton Cole, just look at than goal against Chelsea. The timing, positioning and anticipation is top class and you don't do that without having something special. He has the ability to both play smart passes and make clever runs, that is much more than what several other players can do after winning battles with their strength and height, see Cole, Harewood et al.

The_Steve
Benteke was desperately unlucky not to score against Sunderland. He's only working his way back to fitness and confidence is low. He's still getting himself into these good positions though and that is encouraging.

We haven't dishonored the FA Cup, we are fielding basically our strongest team barring Guzan, Gabby and Vlaar. That is a normal number in terms of injuries and the only "reserves" today are Steer and Albrighton. People were screaming for Donacien and Helenius before the match, so we got a better team than we bargained for.
