France having rotten luck with their senior stars.

Can't say I feel any sympathy for Benzema. Absolute scroat of a man.

Interpol and the ICC should dissect FIFA to the skeleton and bring them to heel once and for all. A total clearout. Prosecute and imprison the worst offenders. Establish an oversight commission that ensures total transparency and integrity.

Not sure if it’s possible but it might be easier for football to just disconnect from FIFA and regroup under a new, more transparent governing body. A complete reset.

What a mess

Christian Eriksson has said Denmark will wear the One Love armband throughout, regardless of the consequences

That’s EXACTLY the approach that needs to be taken with Qatar and FIFA.

Still not in the least bit interested in this world cup. Still expecting to boycott it.

I'm more interested to see how much of a car crash its going to be.

Please don't let the football be good enough to mask the problems. No worldies, no football footage worth showing ever again. Just please be a complete non event, so that the farce of it all is all we have.

Are other people really better. Some people tried to make an elitist super league and they will be the main players trying to take over

There are plenty of decent FAs out there who the fans have pretty heavy control over. Denmark and Norway being the two main examples.

Has everyone forgotten that speech by that Norwegian FA president who’s an openly gay woman married to a woman telling Infantino, Qatar and FIFA how disappointing they are in Qatar?

The Norwegian FA actually had a vote amongst their members about boycotting the whole thing, and I think the vote was very close. Shame they didn’t qualify so the openly lesbian president could come sit next to the king and have a chat.

This is good, people like Beckham deserve to have their reputations tarnished for eternity.

Almost every comment is whining about him shredding the money then regarding the actual message.

Wouldn’t surprise me if what he shredded ended up being fake, which he’ll announce once maximum attention has been extracted and then donated to charity; Real money that is.

I'm sure lots of money has been handed out soon we'll be hearing this is the biggest, most attended and most watched WC ever.

In some ways it will be. There are 1 billion more people on the planet compared to 10 years ago, and their ability to watch it on TV or internet will have drastically increased.

The attendance figures will be fixed if enough people don't pay for tickets. They'll just hand out tickets to the imported fans.

Visiting numbers will be at a historic low thou. Seen expected numbers of around 1 mil to 1.5 mil compared to the estimated 4 mil - 4.5 mil that visited the 94 WC in the US  and the 2006 one in Germany for example.

Wonder how this WC will compare to the previous ones?

Average and total attendance at FIFA football World Cup games from 1930 to 2018

2018 Russia 3,031,768 47,371
2014 Brazil 3,441,450 53,772
2010 South Africa 3,167,984 49,499
2006 Germany 3,367,000 52,609
2002 Japan / South Korea 2,724,604 42,571
1998 France 2,859,234 44,676
1994 USA 3,568,567 68,626
1990 Italy 2,527,348 48,411
1986 Mexico 2,407,431 46,297
1982 Spain 1,856,277 35,698
1978 Argentina 1,610,215 42,374
1974 Germany 1,774,022 46,685
1970 Mexico 1,673,975 52,312

The thing is that most people will still watch this.  And that's all that matters.

Unfortunately that's probably the case. So far I feel it's on the UK media who has been fairly vocal on the problem they have with Qatar. Listening to coverage from the far East they are still pretty much " wahey it's the world cup " and head in sand on how this has come about and the cost behind the scene.

Interested to know what the general coverage in Europe is like given baldy ginger's rant yesterday, and so far seems rather quiet or essentially no opinion from America.
