  1. If it means we can spend money on other players then signing heaton for ~ one third of what it would cost to sign Butland is a no brainer. Heaton could be our keeper for ~3 seasons and that would give us plenty of time to grow into a midtable premier league team. Then we would have the funds to buy a new/better keeper.
  2. Just think of all those twitter followers and how good that team would be on fifa. That's what really matters.
  3. If he gets it I'll be lumping on them to go down
  4. I wouldn't have minded signing Jansson for £5.5m. He would have been a good squad player and cheap enough.
  5. Bernal is the big favourite this year. He looks the strongest and was born at altitude. Quintana is too old (forget his stated age, it's a joke) and once paced to win it IMO. Michael Woods is my outsider for a podium.
  6. They probably know that they will be selling Maguire for ~£80m.
  7. I'm not sure that's true. They have already failed FFP once so I assume they need the money just to balance the books. Nothing like Harry Redknapp to bankrupt a club.
  8. Looks like another rubberised badge, but the pictures of mings don't have the white outline of the badge like there is above.
  9. I would be happy with Heaton. He's not a long term option but would tide us over for a couple of seasons.
  10. Signing Berahino to a 5 year 60K a week deal is just what they need. Smart move.
  11. I never thought of him as that good a player at all. Also I cant imagine he'll be much use when he's 33/34/35. Another dreadful waste of money by PSG
  12. I thought it was for the 'sob on the Tyne' banner when they went down? Either way they think everyone likes them and wants them to do well, probably because of the media w**fest over them, in reality it's the opposite. Most football fans love laughing at them and their delusions.
  13. Yes he is. Anyone 23 or under when the season starts can win it. He's 33/1...
  14. Could be a good bet for pfa young player of the year this season if odds are available.
  15. This. Too old, too expensive, not good enough.
  16. I hope we (/Steve Bruce) haven't broken him by playing him when he was clearly badly injured.
  17. I think it matters because the less we pay for each player the more money there is to buy other players. I assume there's a limit to the amount of money that NSWE's are willing to spend this summer in transfers/wages

Two Points here, 1. Palace can afford to turn down £40m quite easily, it's not a head turning amount of money for them. Just like Leicester can demand £80m for Maguire. Once a player has a few years left on his contract then there's no panic to cash in. 2. Zaha is 26 so palace can keep him for next season, he will help keep them up and then next summer he'll still be worth £80m or if transfer inflation keeps happening possibly even more.
  19. I think people get caught up in the headline fee rather than how the deal is structured. In my opinion a deal like this should be structured so that we pay a reasonable amount up front and the rest with incentives such as X amount when he plays 50 games/100 games for us, X if we stay up this season, X if he gets international caps, etc. If you added the incentives up the headline figure could be £30m but in reality you would only pay that amount if all the incentives are met.

It is though. You can't look back at historical transfers because it doesn't factor in the inflation in transfers. Perez £30m, Wan Bissaka £50m, Kalvin Phillips £25m, Lukaku £70m that's the current market rate. It doesn't matter how much bale cost or ronaldo cost or shearer cost or lentini cost. This is the current market where a player lyon bought for €8m is worth £65m when he moves to the premier league. £50m is the price for an average player, £80m+ is the price for a good player and £200m+ is the price for a world class player. Athletico just bought some an 18 year old with potential for €126m, that's the market. Zaha is worth £80m in today's market.
