  1. How the **** have we not scored yet
  2. Ehhh. I'm quoting the artist description on Spotify, fwiw.
  3. Well, yeah, apparently it's very Bob Dylan-esque (and I agree). There's enough of a contemporary edge to set it apart though.
  4. More similar to 'tsia' i.e. with a hint of a t-consonant at the start, but close enough
  5. So we should treat someone with vitriol if he or she doesn't show signs of being a depressive, even though he or she might be one? Shouldn't we be more circumspect? Slower to jump the gun and judge, perhaps?

    Unbelievable. Coal???!! FFS.
  7. Been busy so was late to the party. Just completed a huge binge-watch of the last 2 seasons. I'm surprised a lot of people say this. Personally I think the first season ripped off the original UK version a little too much, Doug was just Doug, similar girl reporter character etc. Not that I didn't enjoy it, far from it, but I think the show has for the better really developed its own style since the first season. The serial format (as opposed to the original UK mini-series format) allows the writers to flesh out supporting characters to a much greater degree than was possible in the original British mini-series (where, really, Urquhart was the only interesting character, menacing as he was)
  8. Going to watch it for the fourth time sometime again this week perhaps. Can't believe people think it's mediocre, it's so fantastically Star Wars. My father was around my age when he first watched the original 1977 version in theatres and it feels like I've finally got a chance to experience what he and his generation experienced a long, long time ago. (I did watch the prequels in theatres when I was a kid but this feels...different. In a good way). Sure, it's not a classic, but that's a term reserved for groundbreaking movies like the original. However, it was immensely, immensely enjoyable and I honestly find myself unable to get enough of it atm. The new characters are all fantastic and I'm glad the production team are developing them as genuine characters instead of relying too much on the older ones like Luke and Han to drive the story forward, bodes well for the longer-term future of the franchise.
  9. How does Cattermole keep getting picked i have no idea.

Yeah, 'cos what if the British come back, or the Red Injuns, or Martians, or .... All utter danglies, no civilian anywhere needs to own an assault rifle unless your entire population are army reserves - see Switzerland (virtually no gun crime). Not saying it's rational, just saying that 1. it makes sense to the individual who's been brought up in a certain surrounding and 2. solving the problem isn't as simple as implementing laws, assuming you can even get those laws passed.
  11. When living in Korea, I got invited by a friend to join him and his mates and their table. He asked them to guess how old I was. They spent a good thirty seconds looking me up and down, and finally one tentatively ventured '. . . 45?' I was 23. I am originally from Singapore but live in Australia now (moved 2 years ago for study) and...yeah, I've noticed

I'm not saying I'd enjoy living under such gun laws, but it's not quite as simple as saying that it's loony, one has take into account all of the sociohistorical forces that have shaped societal norms and thus understand 1. how freedom to unfettered gun ownership makes subjective sense within a certain worldview and 2. how laws are (often anyway) a reflection of societal norms and hence solving societal problems isn't as simple as implementing laws to ban this and that. Obviously you could write entire libraries of books on such subjects, but I'm just saying...it's not that simple.

<a href=http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2015/jun/01/the-counted-police-killings-us-database#> People who've been killed by police gunshot in the US this year.</a> Thought this was interesting.
  14. Sunderland to go down this season, surely.
