  1. Agree with most here who say that it's worth saving up a few big purchases for if you can wait. My dad in his retirement has started taking a keen interest in the NBA, specifically the 76ers because they have Ben Simmons, an Australian playing for them. I've been waiting for these sales to buy him a few pieces of 76ers merchandise online from Fanatics, along with a couple of items i'd had my eye on. At the shops I was able to buy some clothes i'd needed at a pretty good discount. The shops here were busy but not ridiculous.
  2. I don't think dreams are telling me anything about my life, I think they're just a garbled mishmash of nothing. I do, however, think a really good dream can change your outlook on something significantly. I was considering leaving my now ex-wife and I had this wonderful, powerful positive dream about our relationship that meant I genuinely went into the next little while with a much more positive attitude which made a load of difference. It didn't work in the long run but I absolutely think i'd have ended it much sooner if I hadn't had that dream.
  3. I knew there was a sneakers thread on this wonderful forum! If there's two things that my missus loves it's new sneakers and matching with our 1yo daughter, so for their birthdays this month I managed to find them matching Adidas sneakers. Pretty happy with that and so was she, but what I found was that googling a lot of sneakers meant that every ad and suggested page on social media since has been shoe after shoe after shoe. I'd been looking at getting a pair of Jordan 1s on and off for several years, and I generally found the colourways either a bit garish or when I did find something I liked, I couldn't get it in Australia in my size. Then in the constant barrage of social media sneaker ads, I found these beauties, which should work with basically everything and will be my casual shoe of choice until they fall apart. I've ordered them and i'm patiently waiting on delivery. Got them in a half size bigger than my usual Nike size because I couldn't find a 10.5, but i've tried on other Jordan 1s and the 11s usually fit really well.
  4. This is so surreal and amazing! When was the last time we travelled to play a quality team and smashed them off of the park? Smith ?
  5. I know there is a heap of stuff that's wrong with the US political system but the Supreme Court Justice job for life thing probably makes me the angriest.
  6. I don't think it was fixed, but the sort of behaviour that leads to this sort of incident was absolutely fostered and allowed to continue unabated because all Dana White can see is dollar signs. Don't think for a second White sees this incident as a bad thing. Nurmegomedov v McGregor 2 is now a much bigger fight than it might have been if the first one just ended with Khabib dominating Connor and tapping him.
  7. I've stopped buying FIFA because of FUT. Everything else feels like such an afterthought. I hate games that are pay to win, and I hate any system where you pay money for random items with the quality of those items being down to luck. It's effectively gambling and I have no idea how it's legal to market to children.
  8. I'd be very happy with an Henry/Terry combo. We tried an older manager who had gotten 4 clubs promoted and it didn't work for us. Quite happy to try two of the best players in English football over the past 20 years and see how they go.
  9. I'm on the fence about Bruce but I completely disagree with this perspective. I want Aston Villa to win the next game, but it's far, far more important in the medium term for Aston Villa to get promoted to the Premier League. If people don't think the manager can take us there, then it's in their our interests to get the manager out of the club as quickly as possible, which means losing a few games in the short term. It's not like people are calling for the interruption of a long winning streak for these losses. We're losing regularly enough anyway.
  10. Yeah, if they don't have the authority to issue fines, surely they can only sue for damages, which means they'd have to show some sort of loss they were subject to because you'd left your car there. They'd also have to prove it was you driving the car, which unless there is pretty good CCTV footage, might be really difficult. Even if they're arguing a breach of "contract", they have to be able to prove you were driving and you breached the contract, not just that you're the registered owner of the car. I'm a Police Officer in South Australia and we have a law that compells people to tell us who was driving their vehicle at a certain time, but if it's several weeks later, and they say "I lend my vehicle out to a lot of people, no idea who had it that day", there really isn't a lot we can do. I doubt they can enforce this effectively.
  11. Cahill certainly has a terrific record for Australia, but I rate Kewell and Viduka higher personally. Kewell especially was a wonderful player.
  12. That goal was the most heartwarming Villa goal since Gabby came off the bench to score the winner against Small Heath in 2017. You could tell how much it meant to him and you could tell how much it means for him to be playing for us after talk he might go in the off-season. He's a Villan through and through.
  13. 1, 4, 7 and 11 free. How many clubs would have 4 numbers under 12 free?
  14. Bang on, this is exactly how I would do it. Allow owners to safely exceed FFP, but require them to set up a trust account funded by the owner which covers financial liabilities, so if it all goes belly up there is a fund there to pay out player contracts and we aren't suddenly needing to sell the training ground to stay afloat. It might mean that NSWE need to put 30 million pounds in a trust account to cover our wage bill liability over and above what FFP says we can afford, but it proves that we'll remain solvent and can afford to continue to invest. I fully support a system that stops clubs destroying themselves and being wound up, but it shouldn't be at the cost of investment in football if owners are willing and able.
  15. Pretty sure it's a Tim Sherwood quote, but to use it in our branding, in a font reminiscent of crayon, just reeks of the ineptitude that our club displayed top to bottom in that era. If you're a big club, you don't need to tell everyone you're a big club.
  16. Can't blame Liverpool for wanting to ensure their lad gets games, and I can't blame us for rebuffing that clause. Just wasn't meant to be by the sounds.
  17. We certainly won't be splashing the cash like Man City or Chelsea unless it's a good investment to do so, which wont be while we're in the Championship.
  18. I was thinking he'd be wonderful to sign back on a free late in his career but then I read he was 37. I know he's been around forever but he still looks about 28
  19. Traditionally a public vote of support for the manager precedes a sacking or maybe a mutual decision to part ways. The Henry rumours were surely too widely reported to be absolutely nothing.
  20. There has been way too much smoke for the Henry story to be false, and it would almost be weird for him to stay now given the enormous hype over Henry. I've had mates who haven't ever talked to me about Villa tag me in articles about this. I'm content either way. I think Bruce is a safer play, but Henry would be very exciting and would be a great way for the new owners to show their clout.
  21. It just seems too rigid to be fair. Having to sell players you can easily afford to keep otherwise is ridiculous. There should be some sort of provision for a renegotiation of the amount on the club being sold to a new owner who has obviously passed the fit and proper person test.
  22. This pretty much sums up my feelings. These two are genuinely, demonstratably rich and successful businessmen who have managed to snap up a club with huge potential at (hopefully) it's lowest ebb. I don't want to get excited because nice things don't happen to us, but i'm excited.
  23. Obviously we've been burned before and caution should always be advised, but this sounds like a wonderful thing for our club. Really good day to be a Villa fan.
  24. That Man U kit is garbage. They have a pretty iconic look with the white shorts and black socks and going with this weird gradient thing makes the kit fail to read as a Man U kit on first glance. Terrible. Adidas have been great lately as well, so it's an unusual dip in quality.
  25. Macron's reputation must surely be starting to catch up with it's performance. They've been releasing classy kits for years now. Their last few for us looked terrific.
