  1. There was a make of amp years ago called "HH" , I played with a number of musicians who used that kit. One of the amps had "VS" on it claiming that it sounded like a valve amp . Best bass amp I ever played with was a Peavy with Black Widow speaker - ever come acrosss that stuff ? One bass player had a Fender Bassman rig and a pre CBS Fender Precision. Main problem was ....... he was crap. Dropped bum notes in 3/4 time numbers; and to make matters worse he was from London !!
  2. Would John Robertson (Forest ) count ? I remember when we played them (think it was a night match) and his (slight)gut was hanging over his shorts. Crowd gave him the bird as he ran down the wing. Unfortunately he then skinned John Gidman, crossed the ball and Tony Woodcock scored the only gaol. (IIRC)
  3. Excellent - Liam Norwell skittled 'em I believe. Could only have been bettered if it had been Lancashire going down ! Now let's Warks sort out the Management and coaching staff 'cos something appears to be not working. Ashley Giles to return perhaps ?
  4. It seems Farbrace is quitting Warks at the end of the Season. Any suggestions who might replace him ? Wonder if they would give (Sir) Ian Bell a chance. Or maybe bring Ashley Giles back /
  5. Oh , some time ago but they have gradually reduced the number of manned (can you say that now ) checkouts and replaced them with self serve
  6. The key to that assertion is "as far as I know". My mother in law works on check outs at store in Cannock(West Mids) and she has been offered change of role or redundancy; the store has last some 6 check out staff in the last 2 months. So perhaps not "nonsense'.
  7. Don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere on here but .... does anyone else go out of their way to avoid using 'self service checkout in super markets ? This being on the premise that it is doing people out of a job.
  8. You probably knew that the vocals were NOT sung by Harold Melvin !
  9. Oh agreed and the like of the fine upstanding Jonathon King put that beat to all sorts of junk. But it also gave rise to some great licks; as a drummer you just HAD to be able to play those semi quavers on the hi hat and I believe those octave bass runs started with disco, like wise those neat little one bar guitar riffs ,as per 'Chic'. Early rap (to my knowledge) was a very different beast; made popular (IMO) by the likes of Millie Jackson and even EWF used it in their live act. There was none of the vile misogynistic and sometimes homophobic stuff put out today.
  10. No, that was rap ! Appreciate you might not like Disco but a a working musician (drummer) some of that disco stuff was a guaranteed floor filler. Also used some ace musos , eg Steve Gadd played drums on "The Hustle". - Van McCoy. "Ship Ahoy" by the O'Jays was rather controversial at the time IIRC and possibly damaged their career but one of Gamble and Huff insisted it be released
  11. Great result for the New Zealand Ladies Team Pursuit; who have an English Coach and is from Birmingham ! Be tough to beat Australia but here's hoping !
  12. Surely the failure to build a velodrome is the biggest disaster; one of (if not the) most successful sports and BCC ignore it. It would have been expensive; had the UK not voted OUT of the EU , we might have been able to have obtained ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) money for it. I could have helped 'em prepare the Bid. However, the UK voted out and Birmingham didn't seem to bother with a velodrome anyway.
  13. A somewhat stereo typical post, ever heard of Phil Shiner ?
  14. I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere but ... a mate who works for AVFC was contacted by a former player who he is friends with. This player said that there is a youth in his native Country who looks a real talent and wants to come to the UK; he is 16. My mate enquired from one of his colleagues who asked the youth's age. He is 16 - therefore cannot play in the (non EU) Britain until he is 18 . Another benefit of Brexit !!
  15. Sterling hasn't proved a very good signing has he ! Utter shambles tonight , exemplified by the fact that they couldn't even get the scoreboard working !!!!
  16. Has anyone seen the film "Soul Man" ? Relates (vaguely) to this topic. Quite funny yet quite thought provoking really.
  17. And now Warks are letting Sibley go to Surrey. Can't understand that -unless he was determined to leave; anybody know ?
  18. @mjmooney. I have listened again to your mate, the drummer and as ,i said before he is brilliant and well out of my league . But .....would he be able to back a cabaret act, some female singer, no dots , no run through. Probably with bleached blonde hair, hooped earrings (sufficient to have a budgie swinging in them), singing 'My Way', unsure of key and doesn't count the number in. Probably has all tattoos spelled correctly though. I have !!!
  19. Sky - bassist was Herbie Flowers (as you doubtless knew). Played on Bowie's 'Space Oddity' amongst others. But ..... was also responsible for writing "Grandad' - Clive Dunn !!
  20. Anyone going to 'Bloodstock' ? Looks like a good metal line-up but 'Night Flight Orchestra' seems an odd choice; bearing in mind the audience. I quite like 'em - remind me a bit of TOTO.

    80s Party!

Any body know this 'band' ? The keyboard player was in 'Marshall Hain' who had a big hit in the 70's (IIRC). There were some top American session players on this track; including Rick Derringer , Jeff Porcaro and Chuck Rainey.
  22. ^^^^^ Christ yes !! Bloomin ace. Is that in 5/4 time ? A bit out of my league !
  23. One bloke who played in the band I was in had a "Tokai". I really couldn't tell it apart from a Strat, really nice sound (I thought). Anyone ever had one of these ? Are they still about ?
  24. Is "John" from the Birmingham area ? Just wondered if I knew him - although I have been away from the music scene for some years now.
