  1. Same as Matthew Wade IIRC !!
  2. Oh !! I thought it was a bloke writing .
  3. Can't argue with any of that and perhaps it is just unfortunate that some of the signings haven't come off; 'Rikki' (on his shirt), Maxwell , Matt Wade et al. Plus , they never replaced Jeetan Patel with anyone even near his class. I have no idea if this true, but I was told that the Club were mainly interested in The T20 Final and expensive weddings.
  4. I see the mighty Warwickshire, formally one of the richest and most powerful Clubs in the Country , have made a major signing for next year .... George Garton ! First person to say "Who ? , go and stand in the corner.
  5. I have often been asked why there aren'y more blacks in bike races considering what good sportsmen they can be. I suggest that those of West African origin are too heavily muscled for road racing (Tour de France, Vuelta etc). There are a number of East African cyclists riding in the pro peleton; however those of West African origin have certainly made their mark on the Track - including a French World Champion. Road racing is more about power to weight than outright muscular power. There was a West Indian bloke in a Wolverhampton club who used to race in the same events as me on a Thursday evening; he had a fine physique -muscles in his spit - but as soon as we came to hil he went off the back. Don't think there is any racism involved in that sport. There are of course exceptions but in the UK more often of mixed race including a great rider from Burton on Trent.
  6. So what do England do now ; appoint a new Head Coach ? If they did, my vote would go to Jonathan Trott who has done brilliantly for Afghanistan. (No Warks bias of course). However , I seem to remember he was not a favourite of 'the Cockney Press' so let's find someone from Surrey. Essex, Middlesex et al.
  7. Great Story and as regards the above quote according to great session guitarist Louis Shelton, he would have been ideal for The Monkees !!!

    Unai Emery

Last year I commented on a banner hanging fron the Holte End saying "Reg Evans RIP"; he was a life long Villa supporter and missed very few games (if any) home, away or abroad. He was one of my oldest and best friends and we spoke on the phone nearly every day. A popular manrtra was " It's no use talking about the Saunders days, it's never going to happen again". Now could it just be that, under Unai, those days are returning . For Villa fans too young to remember the great man; we turned up at VP actually EXPECTING tp win - and we usually did and we watched a really exciting brand of football. So ; is Unai the new Messiah ?
  9. One of my favourite spinners ; part of the legendary spin quartet who bamboozled England. Even though England lost a Test to them, they were a treat to watch; beat us with guile, flight and spin rather than trying to smash the batsman in the face.
  10. Was that when Brian Kidd knocked the ball down with his hand to score and the Ref('natch) gave nothing ?
  11. Not heard this Mr Mooney. Do you know who the drummer is on this; presumably recorded after Charlie Watts died.
  12. " Brotherhood of Man" ! We were support to these (70's) I think at Trentham Gardens. Their material was truly dreadful but .. their backing musos were warming up with "Night Crawler" - the Bob James number !!
  13. Anyone watching The World Cup ? What a damn shame to see Sri Lanka rather in the doldrums. Have had some great players who it was a treat to watch , and they all seem very pleasant people.
  14. Apparently , Madonna is touring around now. The BBC Breakfast show interviewed her "Musical Director"; He said that there would be no actual band on stage with her; is that the way music is going I wonder? Driven purely by profit from the Tour perhaps ?
  15. @sidcow, that's it Clarendon Suite. My main memory of that was that there was a 'difficult ' stair case at the back to get the gear in - they wouldn't let us load the amps etc through those front doors. As regards whether they do any harm - my solicitor was one and he told me if the police/ prosecution knew a defendant was "on the square", they might go easy on him. Not ideal I guess.
  16. We used to play at Masons' "Ladies Nights". Played at Yenton Lodge , top of Gravelly Hill, one in Moseley and the big one in Hagley Road which was called The Something Suite - can't remember. They were a funny lot and from snippets of conversastion we overheard, contained a substantial number of Police. They were quite well paid gigs though and if you went down well, would get next years gig too. The inside of the one on Hagley Road we thought was 'sinister' and lavishly furnished.. We had to learn the rather odd "Ladies Song", which started off "Ladies from The east and West" .Cant remember any more of it.
  17. Couldn't go today; confined to barracks 'cos wife recovering from serious op; so I watched BT Sport or whatever it's called now. The commentator said Southgate would receive a "warm welcome back at the club he played for". Anyone else think that might be slightly incorrect ?
  18. I too thought he was a great actor. Never seen any Harry Potter but I thought he was superb in "Maigret". Never thought anyone would get near to Rupert Davies - but (IMO) he did.
  19. Can you name a few numbers that she sings ?
  20. @maqroll . Thanks , well who ever played drums , it certainly wasn't Steve Gadd . That track reminded me of ' Alright Now' - Free.
  21. To save me trawling all through it, which number exemplifies that please ? Not a wind -up or disputing it but I have a theory about Mr Watts hi-hat sound . Cheers
  22. He may have been, can't comment BUT .. he was a bona fide member of the M.U. (Musicians Union) which counts/counted a lot in my book.
